Something called "Juneteenth". Sounds like a made up holiday, but I don't care. I don't remember getting a holiday for this when I started my career. I get a long weekend, and I get to wake up late, go to the woods for a 10K run, tend to my roses and vegetable plants, manage my investments, spend time with the kids... this and that.

No idea wtf Juneteenth is for and I don't care enough to Google or ChatGPT it.

What do you work for the government? Haven't been DOGE'd yet? Shame.

I'm working tomorrow because I have a real job.

My wife is from Michigan. She had no idea what Juneteenth was when she moved here.

And the rest of America shouldn't either. It was a regional celebration that got turned into a national holiday in a fit of pandering.

We have a company holiday but I'll be working because my customers are open. I work most dumb holidays and take off when I actually need/want to

It's Thu night and I am actually working right now. Because I want to finish off my part of the work on a project planned for next year. Yes, I am that good.

My virtue signaling employer makes it a day off every year. We could work but then it wouldn't show the leftist cat ladies in HR how progressive and modern we are!!!

No I am not doing it for the CEO, I am doing it for myself.

There is a deeper reason, I am on the verge of getting selected into a new high level strategic high-visibility AI team. I don't want my current team to be impacted by my transfer. So from the goodness of my heart and since my boss is a very nice lady who treats people right, I am doing this on my own so I don't want her getting into any kind of trouble. Projects under her have gotten delayed and pushed already and she's getting some heat (unrelated to me). This project is a next year project, so I completed my portion of it and engineering will get to it when they are ready.

In this new team, I will get access to the CEO as he created the team and the lead will report to him directly and I will report to the lead.

Just got back from my 10K run.
Woke up at 5:45am but lazed around until 6:15 and dragged my ass out and started my run at 7am. I was working late last night so didn't get enough sleep. Anyway, I completed my run in a much better timing than last week when I just walked the distance, as it was my first 10K of the season.

Feels good. I need to get rid of some tummy flab that my daughter keeps teasing me about, I told her this this year is the year!

You see, I am not afraid of any CEO, but I am afraid of my little girl.

When this first came down I was working for the government (DOD)

We were on a large group call and someone asked about it and the EO hadn't been signed at that point so we we instructed to stand by on that issue. Later in the call, the announcement was made and we were told NOT to work the next day. Half the people on the call were happy about a free day off, the rest were a little annoyed about the short notice. I was one of the annoyed people since I had already planned out my work week and had a ton of stuff to get completed (with a couple of promised deadlines to non-federal applicants).

I don't work for the feds any more, but I always thought it was weird being told that I "couldn't " work on some days. I even got in trouble a couple of times because I (gasp) worked more than 40 hours a week on some occasions.

I was out in the field on a project working with the FAA when this came down...so, basically it shut down our project for that day when the FAA didn't work - but, we're still out in the field in Port Mansfield.

IIRC, the state also declared it a holiday so we got the day off...which I spent in Harlingen.

Delaware had legalized slavery until December 1865. IIRC.
