We have a former friend who was busted for it (police raid at 3 am and everything), and he got probation and a cool sign in his yard. All the signs were there, but we couldn't really put 2 and 2 together. It also explains some of his wife's lies and "coverup" stories.

Just possession. It's a 3rd degree felony which carries 2-10 years. Prosecutor asked for 10 and Defense asked for probation. Judge gave him 4.

I think 4 years was fair (more would have been okay too)

I'll confirm what my daughter already knows. He was arrested for possession of CP. They also found weed during the search warrant, but the drug charges were dropped. They didn't need them to get a conviction. He plead guilty to the CP charges and received 4 years. They expect he'll serve about a year (maybe less). Which just seems wrong, but it's not my call.

That's all I'll say on a public forum as our daughter has been largely sheltered by any info regarding the gross details. I told her I would only tell her when/if she's ready to know, and she needs to be 100% sure. Because once she hears it, she can't unhear it. However, she is aware of the charges, and knows her dad is guilty. She speaks to him occasionally, but refuses to visit or anything. I have left it entirely up to her. She's a great kid.

I know of a school teacher who was convicted of raping a 13 year old student on an ongoing basis for roughly a year. He would also torture her when she displeased him. He received 90 days in jail and 10 years probation after pleading guilty. Using that as a benchmark, 4 years for CP is being tough on crime.

My issue with light sentences for child porn is the majority of the time, sexual abuse has to take place to create child porn.

When I lived south of Houston, my older brother and I met one woman one night (her family were long term friends with my older brother) who told us about her older daughter.

The family was very religious. When her 15 year old daughter needed counseling, she naturally set her to the preacher. They had a weekly counseling appointment for years.

The preacher raped the girl at their first counseling session and every counselling session afterwards.

When the girl graduated from high school and was getting ready to go to college, the counseling sessions were going to have to end and the preacher was quite upset.

One day the woman picked up her telephone to make a call and found it in use -- the preacher was trying to convince the daughter not to go to college so they could keep their "relationship" going. She was, of course, outraged.

It all came out. One thing they found out was that the preacher had been kicked out of his previous church for the same thing and that cowardly church didn't bother to warn the church members at his new church.

With all that had gone before, the wife stayed with him. She had to have known what he was up to when he was counseling the girl.

So the church had a vote about whether to kick out the pastor because of his activities. The pastor stayed and the woman had to find a new church.

At the time, the girl's father was working in Saudi Arabia. The mother was afraid that if he ever found out what happened, he would kill the pastor and go to jail. So she said that she would never let him know the reason they changed churches while he was away.

The father passed away about five years ago. The last time I talked to him was a few years earlier when my brother passed away. I have no idea if he ever found out what happened.

The mother and both daughters are still alive. I think that the two daughters should be in their 50s now.

Out of curiosity, what kinda church was this? Methodist, Baptist, Catholic... ?

I'm not sure which kind of church that was. My impression was that it wasn't one of the main stream churches.

Non-denominational. But by the way you describe it, Maybe pentecostal or apostolic
