Along the lines of the Red Dawn thread, rewatching Dogma for the umpteenth time gave me a question.

In the final showdown Rock and Hayek say they can't kill Affleck and Damon because they might have already gone through the doors. However, after Affleck kills Damon it is obvious they haven't been through the church doors yet. Yet, Hayek and Rock still get made a Jay for shooting off Afflecks wings and after his wings are gone and he has transubstantiated they just sit there and watch him walk toward the church. At this point Affleck is just human, unarmed and he hasn't been through the doors... so why don't Rock, Hayek, and Jay just jump his arse and kill him right there instead of waiting on God? From the minute they arrive on the scene they find out Affleck and Damon haven't been through the doors of the church, so why the standoff? They should and could have just killed them right there.

Can't believe I remember this, but the angels have to remove their wings themselves to become mortal. Jay shooting off the wings allowed affleck to enter the church when he wanted without the threat of being killed. Or something like that. I'd be careful about searching for every plot hole and wanting well thought out explanations in that movie. Your head might explode.

Cosmic has it. Shooting off his wings didn't make him human. He had to do that himself

Huh? No, he was human after the wings got shot off, as evidence by him tasting the blood. Plus his plan makes no sense if he isn't human. He is happy Jay shot his wings off. If that didn't make him human then there's no point in him walking through the doors because he's still an angel and can't die anyway.

But you're right about not the best movie to search for plots holes

yeah I'm a bit hazy on it as well. I know it was important that he didn't cut them off himself, but I don't remember why.

Anyone seeing this in theaters this week? I'm thinking about going Saturday night
