I know that I am way behind the curve on this but I have been recently listening to the bands Avett Brothers, Delta Spirit, Alabama Shakes, Bright Eyes, and Band of Horses. Do you more knowledgeable music lovers on this board have any suggestions as to new groups similar to some of the above that I can try out?

Not a music snob by any means and i dont consider myself the most knowledgeable, but off the top of my head that i have been listening to lately:

Mumford and Sons
Felice Brothers
Of Monsters and Men
The Civil Wars
Trampled by Turtles
Frightened Rabbit
G. Love(his "Fixin to Die" album was produced by the Avett's)

America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive.

Mumford and Monsters are two of the best albums of the last year... You will definitely like them.

And definitely check out The Head and the Heart, especially Lost in my Mind, and Fleet Foxes - Mykonos.

I really like Fleet Foxes newest album, although all of their stuff is good IMO. It'd be right up your alley considering the stuff you listed.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's 'Howl' has a great folky/gospel feel. Excellent album. Their others, not so much.

Frank Turner - British singer/songwriter. I guess he'd be classified as folk but as a former member of a punk band he's got that sort of edge but from the point of view of an aging punk.

Try these out:

Imagine Dragons
The Lumineers
Blind Pilot
Bombay Bicycle Club
Givers
M83
Passion Pit
Yellow Ostrich
Ambassadors
Little Dragon
Nelo
The Dunwells
Tune yards
White Rabbits

Yeah that should keep you busy for a while. YWIA.

A lot of good stuff mentioned. I'd include:

Beach House
POP ETC (The Morning Benders)
Local Natives
Yeasayer
Broken Bells
Cults
Miike Snow
Manchester Orchestra
TV On The Radio
Youth Lagoon
Vampire Weekend

Most of these have a different sound than the bands you listed but great indie bands all the same. Should be some here to your liking

The David Mayfield Parade is greatness. He used to have a band called Cadillac Skythat was pretty good too.

Another vote for the Felice Brothers. Their most recent album "Celebration, Florida" is as good a place to start with them as any.

Go ahead and get on spotify too. When you look up all the recommendations from this thread, click on the related artists tab. At that point you will have covered just about every starved inner city whimsical indie band in this country.

I would recommend some Bon Iver, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Amos Lee, Josh Ritter, Brett Dennen, Calexico, Dawes (already mentioned, but I would second it), Wilco (I know, I know, they have been around forever, but they are still good), Ryan Adams (start with his first band, Whiskeytown and work up til now...you may want to skip his Rock n Roll album), Mason Jennings, and Ray LaMontagne.

I don't have much to add. There is some great music listed in this thread. Two bands I've listened to a lot lately (when I can pull myself away from the Avett Brothers) are "The Apache Relay" and "The Dirty River Boys".

For an Avett Brothers sound, try the Felice Brothers or the Decemberists. Also there is a Canadian band called Elliott Brood, check out the album Mountain Meadows.

For Delta Spirit, try Dr. Dog. I have always associated these bands together and personally think Dr. Dog is one of the best acts going right now. Shame, Shame is an amazing album and their new one is great too. And check out Middle Brother, they are comprised of the lead singer from Delta Spirit, lead singer from Deer Tick, and the lead singer from Dawes (also mentioned above from other posters).

For Alabama Shakes, older Black Keys stuff is an obvious transition if you only know their new music. Go grab Magic Potion or Rubber Factory. Also check out the Drive-By Truckers for another Southern band with similar sound.

For Bright Eyes, check out Conner Oberst's solo band stuff. Also check out the band Beirut. Not necessarily the same type of sound but I have always lumped Oberst and Condon together for some reason.

For Band of Horses, try My Morning Jacket. Their early stuff is much better in my opinion. Go grab the albums At Dawn, It Still Moves or Z. Also the Fleet Foxes are a similar sound and very good.

Love them. One of the better band names out there. Been jamming them since I first heard their early single 'Pangea.'
