Resembles an albino muskrat. Plus she is completely fake. She tries way too hard to play the "sweet, innocent, naive, clumsy girl next door" role. Her music is great though, I am a huge fan.

Actually, radio is not the problem, record companies are. Radio PAYS to play music forced down its throat. If they don't pay, they can't play the music. Not being able to play an artist backed by a record company it turn hurts revenues and ratings. When revenue and ratings tank, the radio station fails.

I disagree with this opinion on every possible level. Radio & radio consultants have been calling the shots for years, and the labels either give them what they insist their 'research' says the need for drive time, etc. or it doesn't get played.

The worst thing that ever happened to music was radio consolidation. Now you've got giant corporations than own hundreds of stations and program the music on all of them exactly the same. As for how many songs gets played, that's entirely up to the station or the corporation who owns it. And the bottom line is, music doesn't make them money, commercials do. Music is just something they have to endure to get to the next used car commercial. Record companies would love nothing better than to have stations programs hundreds of songs - how exactly anyone would think that only have 18 songs in rotation benefits record labels is beyond me.

I thought Taylor Swift had a decent song or two early in her career, bu they have gotten worse and worse as they've gotten poppier. The last one I heard (We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together) is an irritating s*** sandwich of a song written by a bitter person and playing to the least common denominator of pop music fans.

As for her looks, she's average. A little odd, but taken all together the impression is of mediocrity, much like her early music.

Shes cute, but i dont think shes all THAT attractive. Something odd about her face.

Her music is the same. Talented though.

I think she is cute and seems likable. I can't stand her music or anything that comes out of Nashville for that matter. I will say this: as a father of two girls I think she is a fine role model for young girls and I would much prefer my daughters listen to Taylor Swift and emulate her style than I would Lady Gaga or Katy Perry. Some of the pop culture s**t you see these days is downright scary to a parent.

That's because today's country is not country - it is pop with a little bit of a "twang" (and sometimes just straight up pop, as in the case of Swift). Just like pop, it's the middle-of-the-road, generic, cliche-ridden, non-offensive, appeal-to-as-many-people-as-possible choice for people who don't really want to think about what they are hearing, they just want mindless sounds to listen to while they drive/work/etc.

I think I am almost more annoyed by the pop artists who try to pass themselves off as country, usually with a God-awful fake twang (e.g. that stupid ***** from Sugarland) or a song with the contrived, template theme of "I'm a bigger piece of white trash than you" (e.g. Jason Aldean).

I'll actually take Swift over those two.

Taylor Swift goes back and re records some songs and release's them as [name of song] (Taylor's Version).

How does all that that work?

How can an artist re-record and release a song

Seem's like she's created a narrative that she was wronged by the record industry. The story of every single artist. Mad at the record company.

Now she's marketing songs to fans by leveraging this record dispute, and by streaming Taylor's version songs, her fans can get get justice by cutting out the record company.

In any event,

I don't know much about music industry royalties.

Seems like she's taken this dispute with the record company and cut a bunch of folks out of royalties that they bargained for.

How does all that work?

I assume that this has happened before. Is this a known strategy or a one-off deal?

So a holding company pays $300 million for the rights to her early albums that include a the hits that made her famous.

Now she goes end re-records the albums and cuts the holding company and its investors out of the deal.

Seems like the holding company might be mad about that.

It's a brilliant strategy. So brilliant that I'm surprised its working.

There's real money in those royalty checks.

Ten years later and this still rings true. Physically, I think she's smoking hot, but the more I hear from her, the less attractive she gets.

That's wild man.

You always hear about artist fighting the record companies.

I had no idea this was a viable option.

Sounds like a copyright case in the making.

Why would every musician not do this?

Music ownership is WACKO...but it works like this:

Every song has masters rights and publishing rights.

The publishing is the writers of the songs, so the song itself not recordings of it. When a band covers a song -- they have to pay publishing rights to use the song. Taylor Swift writes her songs (or co-writes) so she owns these rights.

The masters are the recordings. So when an artist records an album, the label typically owns the recordings. Taylor Swift is re-recording her albums (or basically covering them....remember she already owns the publishing so she can allow herself to do this) so that she can own those master recordings, and then marketing them to her fans.

Its genius and the people who own her original masters have no legal recourse. Its only copyright infringement if the owners of the publishing have not granted the rights to record the song...and again...she owns all her own publishing.

A lot of artists don't write their own tracks AND have no ownership of their masters, so they make no money on streams/plays, etc., which is fascinating as well.

Opposite is true for me. I thought she was slightly plain and mousy when younger but think she's smoking now.

She's stunningly genius. And a control freak.

Nobody else would pour the time and money in to do what she did.

And she's winning.
