I'm good with this. Cleanse the palette.

How will that fix it? Isn't this the same creatives?

I doubt McGregor will have much of an impact, seeing as he's almost assuredly going to be relegated to flashbacks. He'll lend some much-needed gravitas for sure, but not likely in any scenes that actually move the plot forward.

I do really like the casting of Rory McCann, though. R.I.P. Ray Stevenson, but in this role at least he was kind of bland/boring (which was par for the course for the entire season one vibe, IMO), and McCann at least brings some life/personality.

That said, yeah, it's the same creatives. And as I've said multiple times now, Filoni just doesn't have "it" in terms of propulsive storytelling/filmmaking. Now that he has more experience, I do think this season will be better, but I still don't know that it'll actually be good. Fingers crossed, though.

they should just do a live action Clone Wars series already

I would be down, but I don't think I would want a series. At least 1 movie, maybe more. Then decide what story to tell. The animated movie introduces Ahsoka, but the plot was mostly dumb. So do you Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka trying to uncover/stop a Separist plot and tangle with Ventress? Focus on Clones doing some Band of Brothers type mission? Hell, could even introduce a new Jedi leading a small unit of Clones.

Some of the stuff from the series might not translate well, though.

Do a live action of the Mortis story arc. Watch the internet crumble.

I feel like a live remake of the animated Clone Wars would be like the live remake of the Lion King. I would have no desire to watch it as much as I liked the Clone Wars.

Watching Skeleton Crew, which I mostly enjoyed, one thing really stuck out to me, especially in the finale, which is that the whole Star Wars aesthetic might be starting to feel increasingly dated. Granted, the franchise has always been beholden to "1970s future tech," for obvious reasons, which is such a distinct part of the overall vibe/charm/appeal. But this is the first time I wondered if all the big red/blue/white buttons, the lack of 4K screens, the lack of galactic wi-fi/bluetooth/communication devices, the use of clunky hard drives, physical credits, etc is part of what's keeping a new generation from fully connecting with the franchise.

Again, all of us who grew up with/without all that stuff mostly find it charming, part of the appeal, and that it makes for something more... tangible. But for younger generations, especially those born in the 2000s, does Star Wars now fell like Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon did to us growing up, and not in a good way? Is the "old" aesthetic something that's now ultimately holding it back? I don't know, IMO, the overall look/vibe just doesn't feel as fun or as unique as it once did, and I'm starting to wonder if us older folks are blind to how dated this whole franchise might now feel to a younger crowd.

I also wonder if some new space epic/adventure franchise is eventually going to come along and take its place. Dune is mostly for adults, and feels like more of a limited engagement than any kind of potential replacement. But something else of that quality/caliber - aimed at kids and adults alike - could easily come along and feel fresh/fun/cool in the same way Star Wars did back in '77 if Disney isn't careful. To that end, I also wonder at what point does Star Wars need to reboot from scratch, if ever? Keep the same old grungy/used/beat-up vibe from the original trilogy, which was a revelation back in the day, but update the tech a bit. At what point does it cease being Star Wars, though?

Don't disagree overall, but 2 points:

1: Andor had the same 70s tech issue but didn't feel dated to me at least (maybe because the story actually carried it)

2: Guardians to me is the closest thing to a replacement and has been great, but doesn't have the staying power as its own universe that Star Wars does

Overall I think good stories will appeal to the current generation and adults but what they have been putting out for the most part is trying to recapture the nostalgia all of us have and have both missed that and not brought in the next generation

Yep, chasing the increasingly aging-and-not-growing nostalgia demographic has probably been a mistake.

Rebels might have been the one thing that brought a new generation, and it's already 10 years old. The prequels largely missed, Resistance missed Andor and Rogue One don't really target youth. Maybe Mandalorian with Grogu? Feels like that is already wearing off, but I guess if it got 2 or 3 ages of kids that's something?

I work at an elementary and there are very few kids taking about Star Wars or wearing SW clothes.

Probably because most of their parents grew up with the prequels

Funny you used Dune.....it's essentially the same as Star Wars (actually even more retro in some cases) in that the entire premise of that universe is one that revolted and outlawed advanced tech, AI, etc. And if the movies go any further beyond the first three books the tech regresses even further.

So the two most popular sci-fi series going are based in retro-analog tech.

I generally agree with you though. At some point this won't be relatable. IRL, anyone whose memory begins after 2007 can't process the analog world prior to that. It's completely foreign and isn't real to them.

So this would be a flashback sequence since she should be dead by the time of Andor?

Super dead by then

edit: Unless, of course, they retcon the retcon and have her death been a fake so that adult Leia can then "remember her being sad"

I always took that line as an indication of her Jedi genes, an unborn baby knowing what her mother felt or some such.

I'm sure that's the justification post-episode 3, but for how many years prior to the prequels did you believe it was b/c her mom was still alive when Leia was a little kid?

They are going to pull her in via the world within worlds or whatever the Star Wars multi-verse is called. I'm already tired of this, frankly. Not that I won't watch it because she's hot.

Pretty much immediately. Maybe not when I first saw Jedi on opening night, but that thought occurred to me that summer.
