In all seriousness, as Cinco said, the problem is really Anakin, not Jar-Jar.

1) Find a late teens/early 20s actor who can play a little younger and who will be the face of the franchise for 3 movies.

2) Have him be 15 or 16 and Padme the same or slightly older so it's way less weird and she can feel genuinely attracted to him when he saves her entire planet from the Trade Federation. Imagine him wearing rags and dirty clothing the whole movie (and why don't they give him clean clothes on Coruscant, what the hell?) and then she sees him with the haircut and the Jedi robe at the end. Padme's all about that.

3) Show him on multiple occasions USING THE FORCE without even knowing what the Force is. They could have done so much with that during the Pod Race, especially after Qui-Gon tells Shmi "he can see things before they happen." I have always thought that the biggest miss was not having a scene where he taps into the Force during the pod race and they cut to Qui-Gon feeling it in the crowd, Obi-Wan feeling it back on the Naboo ship, and the real winner, Maul in the desert monitoring his probe droids, and he feels it too, and maybe is even a little freaked out by it - because he knows who the 2 Jedi on planet are, but this is something totally different. They could also have him using the Force to eff with Watto or in the deleted scene where he fights Greedo to give you that early hint of what's to come.

4) When he and R2 take off in the N-1, he should let R2 fly the ship at first, and then realize he can do it faster and better because of his Force skills, and blowing up the control ship isn't a fluke, it's him figuring out something with the Force and taking a crazy, but Force-enhanced shot, just like Luke does in ANH.

I feel better now.

I agree with every bit of this. Implement Anakin's character in this fashion, and I have to believe The Phantom Menace is not raked over the coals every time it's mentioned now.

It's still the best of the prequels.

I'll put Revenge of the Sith slightly ahead of TPM. But even AOTC is better than any of the sequels.

AOTC is at the bottom where it belongs. The second time I watched it I just found myself bored. Never finished it.

I used Google Gemini to produce a list of actors born between 1979 and 1984 who could have potentially been cast as a teenage Anakin for TPM. The list will enrage you ,although they seemed hellbent on going with an unknown, so who knows.

Heath Ledger, born '79
Ryan Gosling, born '80
Jake Gyllenhall, born '80
James McAvoy born '79
Charlie Hunnam, born '80
Ben Foster, born '80
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, born '80

Here's Gosling in 1999 as Young Hercules in New Zealand

Charlie Hunnam in 1999

Ben Foster in 1999

Off-topic but I rewatched Phantom Menace last night and had an idea for a conversation topic. There is a shell of a good movie in there, but obviously it has its flaws.

If you could change something about Phantom Menace to make it a better movie, what would you change?

Opposite of Highlander's "There can be only one" mantra, I have two changes:

- Introduce Anakin as an older, mid-teens kid
- Remove the comic antics from Jar Jar. He still needs to be an idiot, but he doesn't need to behave like a first grade brat.

Anakin was actually supposed to be 12 or 13 at first. 13 or even a little older would have been better.

I didn't mind Anakin's age in TPM, but I've always thought it would've been so awesome (and poetic, as Lucas would say) if he didn't accidentally blow up the Trade Federation ship, but instead did it purposely, using the Force without even realizing he was doing it. A perfect shot through the hangar door. The Force Theme swells as he does it.

Would've been perfection.

The only other thing I would have added to Anakin in TPM was a flash of anger/frustration when blowing up the ship. So with that anger came a rush of power. A premonition of the power his anger can have.

One of the biggest missed with TPM occurred afterwards. They never used Qui-Gon again.

They had a great chance in the Obi-Wan mini series to show his force ghost.

Sorry. I meant in depth. More than a cameo.

Going back to "The Big Picture" Star Wars draft from a couple of weeks ago, would anyone be interested in having some sort of fun "draft" among some of this thread's superfans and let the rest of the board decide who drafted best? Not really sure about logistics, just thought I would gauge interest. I figure everything that has been on a screen - movie or TV series would count.

Off the top of my head, we could do categories like:

1) Hero
2) Villain
3) Alien
4) Droid
5) Vehicle
6) Weapon (a specific, not "lightsabers" or "blasters")
7) Needle drop (track / song from any soundtrack)
8) Planet
9) Theatrical release movie / TV Series
10) Line (let's say up to 2 complete sentences said by one person)
11) Single scene
12) Single TV episode
13) Other media character - someone who has only been seen in video games, comics, or the EU/Legends like HK-47 or Mara Jade or Darth Revan (spoiler alert: IT'S YOU)
14) Land / space battle
15) Lightsaber duel

Would love to discuss with anyone interested.

to be fair, it seemed to be thrown in as such an afterthought only right at the end I can understand why someone would forget…

Just going to throw this video out there…..I listed to WDW Pro on occasion but don't catch everything they post by a long shot….but this one seemed interesting enough to share….

Most of this is audio so play in the background but it revolves around all the recent news/rumors we've heard combined apparently with a big meeting that there's a picture of…..
