I thought the opening sequence was fantastic. It set a good tone for the entire movie by putting me right into a Star Wars frame of mind, which I admittedly was not in when I walked into the theater. I went in anticipating a "meh" movie. Seeing the AT-ATs on the mountain ridge, and finally getting a peek inside the "belly" of those things, was great.

I won't say this is the best Star Wars movie or anything close to it. It didn't expand on anything, but it really didn't have to. It really was more like a Season 4 of The Mandalorian on the big screen rather than TV. And that's ok.

When did Newman become an X-Wing pilot? I thought his dream was to be transferred to Hawaii.

A little confused on your first point. Favreau was as involved in S3 and he was in S1-2, was he not?

Did y'all do the cliched tiktok where you all go up to the box office and ask for tickets, and the worker asks for what movie?

A few of the visuals and scenes in the movie make me really wish we could actually get an X-Wing movie or series.

When the dogfight scenes happened, I just couldn't help but think how a Top Gun style Rogue Squadron movie would be one of the easiest layups of all time.

It would certainly be that. I mean it was so obvious that Top Gun Maverick wanted to remake the Death Star trench run, and was a massive success.

No, not yet. There will be a ton of people at the event tonight in Rockwall, so I will ask someone to do it.

A- on Cinema Score, so maybe some good word of mouth buzz

Reading online discourse, lots of people enjoyed it, but the people who didn't like it seem to REALLY not like it. So it will be interesting to see what kind of legs the movie has after this weekend

I still say if this has legs it'll be due to an unexpected group - moms taking kids to see baby Grogu and the hairy little mechanics.

There's really not much to dislike. It's pretty safe and down the middle. That's the biggest critique you can give it, IMO.

And I guess the lack of character development. Nobody really has a character arc, but that's to be expected when it's just a long episode of a tv show.

Was the dumb reacting to the colossal flop that was director's previous film, Wonder Woman 1984? I seem to recall that being the case, and if it was, then that seems to be a bad reason for cancelling what would very likely be a massive success.

Have you seen Wonder Woman 1984? Seems like a good reason to take Jenkins off the project. But they could've moved on with someone else.

I'm hopeful for Starfighter, but does Lucasfilm know they can do stories that don't involve an adult escorting a child character?

The Mandalorian did it and it was fresh, and the new movie is still banking on the good will from it.

Then Obi-Wan Kenobi did it.

Skeleton Crew sort of did it (w/ multiple kids)

Now Starfighter is doing it....

Yes, I saw that POS. I also saw the first one, which was mostly well done. I felt like she could handle Rogue Squadron.

I mean this seems like the most likely plot?

The question in my mind is Grogu there or not.

Saw Mandalorian today with my 15 and almost 13 year old sons…it was great for Star Wars. Best Star Wars movie since Return of the Jedi other than Rogue One. I think I liked it better than Rogue One as parents can watch with kids and still enjoy.

If they build off of it, it might have the chance to become a great story of its own connecting to the other movies and shows.

Better than a movie that some feel is the best in the franchise? Or is at least 1B or 2nd?

Definitely not better than Rogue One, but I enjoyed it much more than Solo, TLJ and ROS. TLJ aggravated me and ROS was a mess. Solo was enjoyable but not as much as Mando. It's probably a better Star Wars movie than TFA but I actually enjoyed TFA as well. Mando isn't "absolute cinema" (nod to Scorsese who was in this movie) but it would be a shame for it to flop because people don't want to give it a shot.

Long time Star Wars junkie from when I went as a little boy to see Star Wars - A New Hope. My daughter follows in my footsteps. We both liked it. Thought it was good. Daughter really liked the music. Hoping the next movies are just as good.

I had a stupid **** eating grin on my face the whole time watching. Hearing the Mando theme in IMAX literally brought chills to me.

The opening sequence I would put up there as some of the best action sequences in Star Wars. Not Duel of the Fates but I would say maybe top 5. Will need to marinate on it

In general the action is really good. The Snake Dragon fight actually was ****ing intense. The coliseum the creatures while cool did look a little off.

There are definitely scenes in this that felt like the movie format was perfect and not on Disney Plus. I think the scope is obviously smaller but we have asked for something that isn't galaxy spanning, personal storytelling, dealing with the criminal underworld etc. That one planet basically is what I imagined Batman Beyond would look like in live action.

I also was surprised with Jeremy Allen White's Hutt character. I really liked that and his relationship with Grogu.

X-Wing Bomber Run was chef's kiss. Beautiful, I have high hopes for Starfighter

There is a segment that is just Grogu for 20 minutes and I drank it in. Also love me the Babu Friks

Yes there are a few moment that it felt like an extension of the show, but overall it was a good return to these characters and I thought definitely justified quite a bit of it being a movie in theaters.

Wife and I really enjoyed it.

Just a fun Star Wars movie. Its no where close to perfect, but it was blast to watch.

I really liked what they did with Rotta and the Grogu segment was really sweet albeit slightly slow.

*sigh*

Alright…here we go…

The opening sequence was awesome. Like legit awesome. I went in to this film hearing that opening sequence was tops and those expectations were met…other than the imperial villain being more of a cartoon character than acting like an actual person…

But man did this thing drag a bit after that…

I couldn't stand Ratta the Hut…like at all…the voice acting for him was terrible. We already have a monotone main actor and having Ratta deliver his lines in almost the same manner was where it lost me…..on top of the fact we've seen these types of stories a ton, the, "I'm not my dad. Finally out of his shadow. I'm my own man blah blah blah" if you're going to go that route make the character talking about it actually friggin interesting!!!

The plot? 100% predictable. If you watched the trailer you knew exactly what was coming and when.

Sigourney Weaver…you're almost as bad as the chick from the Mando show who works on his ships……almost as bad….

I will echo the same sentiments as others here where Grogu was doing his own thing while trying to save Mando was interesting…it also dragged too long but at least it was interesting…except it amounted to nothing in the end. Is Grogu smarter and wiser after experiencing that? Beats me because he can't talk.

The action was good. The only annoying scene was the gladiator fight stuff but everything else was pretty fun and neat to look at.

So yeah this was a solid 5/10 for me.

Interesting enough the rest of my family was

Wife: 5/10
14 yr old: 4/10 (that surprised me)
12 yd old: 6/10
8 yr old: 8/10

My 14 year old was really frustrated there was zero growth with these characters. He wanted something to change as a result of this movie…someone dying or there being a team up or something to that effect. Did not expect that from him.
