Still probably the most disappointed I've ever been after a blockbuster, next to The Phantom Menace. Count me in the Lucas camp.
Iger doesn't get it. The fans didn't want TPM - that didn't mean they had to remake the original movie.
But didn't Lucas want to do some insane Honey I Shrunk the Kids midchlorian concept if he still owned it? I recall reading this. If that is true, we likely dodged an even bigger bullet than what we got.
I get the backlash, but I personally really enjoyed TFA.
Yes, it was absolutely derivative, but it just felt like Star Wars which was really needed. The far bigger error was the lack of a plan to tell an intentional story across the trilogy.
I've got far more hate for TRoS, which I think I've watched maybe once after my initial viewing.

Tend to agree. If we had just had an actual plan for the story arc, we likely are all mostly good with whatever was ultimately released.
agreed the issue was there was no plan...no coherent structure and they just slopped whatever out there

Agreed. Nothing beats the disappointment of TPM, TFA is up there. I know a lot of people on here love it, but I just have no use for it. It's on tv a lot and I have no interest in watching it or any of the sequels.

On the surface, TFA was a fun movie. It was like a breath of fresh air at the time. But upon further reflection and considering the two that followed, it is the movie that ticks me off the most. It is an incredibly lazy movie, as it basically is a remake of the first Star Wars movie, except this time there's a Mary Sue and a grandson with anger issues. And with the way the two that followed TFA went, it is clear there was no plan at all for the trilogy.
You may not like the prequel trilogy, but no one can dispute that GL had a plan with that trilogy. He had a story in mind and he told it from beginning to end. One can argue that he should have allowed other voices into the room in terms of dialogue and possibly even the director's chair. But I will continue to look on the prequel trilogy with a lot of fondness that I will never give to the sequel trilogy. Attack of the Clones may be the worst of the prequels, but it is a better movie experience than any of the sequels, including TFA.
