Great movie. Pacino is a little overboard (what's new?) but the movie is still great.

Maybe the greatest shootout in movie history. It does get boring at times, but still a great movie.

I was hoping this thread was gonna be about the professional robbers movie and not the Sandra Bullock movie.

I liked it. The botched robbery in GTA IV was basically Heat: The Video Game

The last hurrah of Pacino and DeNiro.

its one of my favorites and without a doubt that bank robbery scene is one of the best of all time and probably wont be outdone in our lifetimes.

ya, it could use about a 20 minute edit but those extra mins didn't bother me personally.

DeNiro was perfection in that film and Pacino had his moments but he was a lil over the top at times.

I think it is when they are breaking into the place but abort the mission.

One of my favorite movies.

FYI - Think Kilmer has a cyst on his elbow, recognizable in Neil's (DeNiro's) condo. Not sure if real or for character.

Man, I totally forgot about that. I wish I could figure out how to unloack the parental controls on my xbox so I could go back and play that mission. It was awesome.

In the conversation for top 10 movie of the 90s and probably Michael Mann's best film, in my opinion.

Others in the top 10 for me:

Pulp Fiction
Fight Club
Goodfellas
The Shawshank Redemption
Saving Private Ryan
The Usual Suspects
The Matrix
American History X
Good Will Hunting

Great movie.

The cast alone is reason to watch this movie.

Deniro
Pacino
Kilmer
Sizemore
Portman
Judd
Voight

I didn't think it was as good as it should/could have been, considering the cast.

If he just keeps driving at the end instead of stopping at the hotel Heat would probably be remembered as an all time great. In order to have a final confrontation, they betrayed everything about De Niro's character.

That was kinda the point (the fallibility of the characters, both robbers and police, and how their lives were ruined by their weaknesses, etc.). DeNiro's downfall was his newfound attraction for this woman and desire to change his ways and escape his bank robber life. Toa have De Niro keep driving (as much as I wanted him to) would have been contrary to what the movie was saying. That wouldn't have made the movie great, it would have lessened the impact of it.

Each to their own I guess, but the way I see it is that they chickened out on letting the bad guy get away, and forced one more scene between the two stars when it wasn't needed.

The whole point of "Heat" was don't have anything you aren't willing to walk out on in a second if the heat is around the corner - which is exactly what DeNiro did (or tried to do) at the end. You don't cut the scene that included a decision by the main character that you set the entire movie up to lead to. It didn't betray his character because he lived up to his speech to Pacino in the cafe - he chose his criminal life (and getting even with Waingro) and escaping the Heat over the girl. He had his chance to get away with her initially and couldn't do it, then he literally walked/ran away from her when spotting the heat.

It could have used a little bit of editing with some of the WAGS scenes being a decent candidate for cutting, but it needed some of the WAGS because it was the premise of the movie. I probably would have cut or at least shortened some of the the ****ed up step-daughter stuff, along with a little bit of the other WAGS scenes with the side characters.

I've never been a huge Michael Mann fan. Last of the Mohicans is the only movie of his I would really consider to be a really great movie. All his movies tend to suffer from the same issue: scenes that drag just a little bit too long. Ali is another movie like Heat, in that a little bit more editing could have put the movie on a whole other level.
