John Francis Daley wrote Horrible Bosses, but you probably know him as the lead "geek" in the short-lived cult hit Freaks and Geeks.

This is a sequel, not a remake.

It's not a half-bad idea. My problem is I'm not a big Ed Helms fan and can't see him as Rusty.

And this. Why not just get Anthony Michael Hall? I'm pretty sure he's not that busy these days. Even Ethan Embry would have been cool. Maybe Johnny Galecki?

Also, Randy Quaid needs to be in this or it's not a Vacation movie.

I remember the rumor several years ago that Anthony Michael Hall would reprise his role in a Vacation sequel. That would actually be pretty cool. He has virtually zero star power these days, though.

I suppose sequel would be the better term; however, I expect the plot to be something like "Rusty Griswald decides to follow in his father's steps by taking the family across the country to visit Wally World, hilarity ensues"

Well the first one was great and the second one sucked. The third was great followed by even more suckiness. If trends follow, this one should be great.

This was shelved twice already.

Who knows tho.

Ed Helms is great and has a better resemblance to Chevy than any of the other Rustys.

Any word on Audry?

Vegas Vacation Audrey was outstanding. What happened to her?

Anyway, not sure about the writers or casting Ed Helms. But I generally like the idea of continuing the series in this way.

From what I've read it sounds like Rusty is emotionally scarred from his dad's family vacations and is scared and/or refuses to go on them with his own family. That's actually pretty funny

I got approached by some producers with a horror script a couple months back that had AMH attached to direct.
I doubt they contacted or wanted him for this but he is currently unavailable.

Haven't read it yet, but I have a draft of the script from 2012 if anyone wants it.

Yeah, but he's not playing Clark, he's playing a grown up Rusty. You know who looks a lot like a grown up Rusty? The grown up actors who played Rusty.

He is playing Clarks son.

Ed Helms is another actor I'm getting tired of Hollywood cramming down our throats. Nearly all of his characters are some goofy, bumbling dude, and it will be no different for Rusty Griswold.

Will not watch.

Understood. But do they resemble their parents more than they resemble... themselves? Getting the same actor to play the part is sort of the ultimate trump card to simply resembling someone else.

I'm not saying your rationale is off, I'm just saying there's an even better option available. The downside would be that I'm not sure AMH could carry a movie as the lead, and maybe Helms can come close. But even at that point it's less about looks and more about acting.

Who is more box office marketable?

Johnny Galecki is really the only Rusty that could even come close to Ed Helms, and Galecki is making $23M a year right now is unavailable during this shooting time. Plus, he is 5'6". There is a high suspension of disbelief that he could be Rusty.

I do love that old navy commercial tho.

clearly this is important to you. you must have hated the "tradition" of changing out the griz kids for each film. why should that change here? for the sake of non-existing continuity, you want them to cast some has been out of work former child actor.

To be fair io him, Anthony Michael Hall and Johnny Galecki aren't really has beens.

One is more famous, but AMH has worked steadily for 30+ years.

The other two, well one has been in an Old Navy Commercial.

And the other was The Bass Player in That Thing You Do!

Prior to Vegas vacation. I looked at his imdb page, while not an unsuccessful actor, he has never been more than a supporting actor.

Rusty has to carry this movie and needs to have the same name/face recognition as Christina Applegate.

Also, I am hoping the go for an R rating.

AMH is definitely a has been. Galecki is a TV actor, and couldnt open a movie, and isnt really anyones first or 2nd thought for "rusty". but you're absolutely correct that he isnt a has been.
