All fair points. Just seems odd with all the rumors that they'd bring her in to play a more minor character, particular as she'll probably be a pretty big deal in the nevxt few years.

There's also a lot of questions around MJ given how the last film ended. Is MJ really his MJ anymore? Will they find a way to being them back together?

That was such a distinct choice that you have to think there was an end goal in mind.

I missed that Sadie Sink is girl from Stranger Things. She looks quite different now.

It's been like 10 years since the last season, I think you are forgiven on that.

Announced back in August, but yeah, no one knows in what capacity. Could be flashbacks, or maybe there's some Ultron remnant in Vision's code or whatever...

Sadie Sink Confirmed to Join the MCU in Spider-Man 4, Though Her Role Still Remains Unclear - Here's Why

Back in December, I passed along a hot rumor that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink was being eyed to play Jean Grey in the MCU, and today, Deadline's Justin Kroll dropped one of his patented #KrollBombs, reporting that Sink has officially joined the cast of Spider-Man 4.

Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the Spidey sequel, which will see Tom Holland and his real-life fiancee Zendaya return as Peter Parker and MJ, respectively.

Deadline writes that "the prevailing theory" is that Sink will be introduced as X-Men character Jean Grey, though the trade hints that she could be playing another red-haired character in the Spider-Man universe.

While many have interpreted that as a reference to Mary Jane Watson, Peter's longtime love interest in the comics, it's also possible that Deadline could be referencing another character (more on that below) since Zendaya already plays MJ (albeit Michelle Jones-Watson) in the Spider-Man movies.

Either way, Deadline claims that Sink will play a "significant role," and that Holland's "old castmates" may have "reduced roles" in the sequel, given the events at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. My sources remain in the dark as to the story of Spider-Man 4, which falls between the next two Avengers movies on the release calendar.

Who knows what could happen in Avengers: Doomsday, but if Robert Downey Jr. is playing Doctor Doom in that movie, then it stands to reason that there could be a brand new MJ in the MCU - one from an alternate dimension or timeline.

And now, let's dig into the Jean Grey of it all.

I have to begin by saying that my understanding of Sony's arrangement with Marvel requires the latter to provide each Spider-Man movie with a major MCU character.

Spider-Man: Homecoming co-starred Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Spider-Man: Far From Home offered Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, and Spider-Man: No Way Home featured Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange.

When I first mentioned the rumor that Sacha Baron Cohen's Mephisto may pop up in Spider-Man 4, one source reached out doubting that Cohen/Mephisto were big enough to satisfy that requirement.

My Hot Mic co-host John Rocha then mentioned a rumor about the Hulk being part of Spidey 4, and that character certainly wouldn't been big enough, but a source later poured cold water on that theory.

So, if Sink is, in fact, playing Jean Grey… that character would satisfy that deal point.

Keep in mind that Marvel execs have been hinting for a while now that the studio plans to parse out its X-Men character introductions, meaning some mutants could pop up in the MCU sooner than others, and certainly before the X-Men movie arrives in theaters. That could be what's going on here…

But would Marvel's Kevin Feige really want to introduce the new X-Men in a Sony movie? I'm not so sure that makes sense to me.

When I reached out to a source to ask if Sink was playing Jean, they suggested that having Jean in Spider-Man 4 may require Sony to give Lauren Shuler Donner a producing credit and fee, which Sony would be unlikely to agree to. Donner wasn't mentioned in Deadline's story alongside producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal.

So, if Sink isn't playing Jean Grey, and Zendaya isn't going anywhere as MJ (as far as I know), then who could she be playing? While Firestar is one distinct possibility, given the character's red hair, it's also possible that Sink could be playing Felicia Hardy, aka Black Cat, as Marvel may not wish to pair Spider-Man with a lesser-known character such as Firestar. And Sink could easily dye her hair blonde, so don't get too hung up on her hair color, or anyone's looks in general, as that's what wigs and makeup are for.

Witness the casting of the Beatles in Sam Mendes' upcoming Sony movies.

And that's the thing about the X-Men rumors I've passed along - I believe Marvel is interested in all of those actors, but it could always be for other roles. Margaret Qualleymay very well be up for Rogue, as rumored, but it's just as possible that Marvel has her in mind for something else following a general meeting that went well.

However, seeing as how Deadline reported that Sink is "set" for Spidey 4 - not even "in talks - Marvel has likely had its eye on Sink for some time, and her casting has been in the works for a while…

Sink recently wrapped the final season of Stranger Things, which will debut on Netflix later this year, and her new Searchlight musical, O'Dessa, will begin streaming on Hulu on Thursday.

O'Dessa looks pretty out there, but I've been looking forward to that film for years, having put Geremy Jasper's 2017 debut Patti Cake$ on my Top 10 list that year.

Under normal circumstances I'd be all for Black Cat, but there's a good chance she'd end up as yet another introduced-but-never-revisited character, and I think I've had my fill of those.

Right now that list includes, off the top of my head… Shang-Chi, the ~8 remaining Eternals, Starfox/Eros, Thor's new daughter, Hercules, Skarr, America Chavez, Moon Knight, Moon Knight's wife, She-Hulk, Ant-Man's new daughter and Wiccan.

So yeah, give me Jean Grey and make it the first of many appearances. But also, what a weird choice - I can't think of a single Spidey/Jean interaction in any medium.

For a split second, I thought Jeff Sneider was reporting Nathan Fielder was working on a new Spiderman movie, which would become the greatest thing in entertainment history.

Don't forget whoever was Charlize Theron's cameo at the end of Multiverse of Madness.

5 of those you named are probably gonna join up with Kate Bishop and Ms. Marvel, right?

Is Black Cat Jon Snows character at end of Eternals? Because he was forgotten about too. I don't even recall Starfox (no idea who that is), Thors daughter, and Hercules even introduced. Maybe they were in something I haven't seen yet.

Literally just that Fielder has been secretly visiting her in prison in Bryan and interviewing her for some unknown project he's working on. But Sneider doesn't know if the project is solely about Holmes or if she's a part of something bigger (my guess is the latter).

Would be hilarious to run into Fielder in BCS, though. For those of you who live there, keep an eye out!
