just watched the pilot for this potential series by amazon last night. it's based on a work by philip k. dick (the writer of the book that the movie "bladerunner" was based on).

it takes place in an alternate reality where the axis powers (nazi germany and japan) won world war 2 and have split the united states into two separate occupied territories. the japanese have the west coast, the nazis the eastern two thirds, and the rocky mountain area is a neutral zone between the two. the war didn't end until 1952 and the events of the show take place in 1962. hitler is ill and there looks to be trouble brewing with the upcoming power struggle when he dies.

i enjoyed it. and will definitely give it a shot if they decide to make a full season. you can tell that some real effort went into the visuals of the show, and i hope it gets picked up. has any one else watched it?

My roommate was one of the AD's on the show. They filmed it up in Oregon. The director has directed a lot of pilots and has over a 50% pickup rate. He is a dick though.

Sounds intriguing.

However I am hesitant to watch these. I watch the pilot for The After, and I enjoyed it. But it's been about a year since I saw it. I just hate waiting that long after just one episode. I will definitely watch it when the full season is released, I just hate the wait.

Amazon pisses me off with that. They put out a bunch of pilots and none of the shows I'd watch get picked up. Instead, they make **** like Alpha House and Transparent.

I just finished reading the book a few days ago! I heard about it because one of the actors was on the Late Late Show late last year plugging it. Oh well. The book at least is fantastic and I HIGHLY recommend it.

I watched a bunch of the 2015 pilots the other day. Cocked and Mad Dogs were really good, hope to see them get picked up.

take it in a true detectives style where each season is a different situation with a new cast

I read it today. Incredible. Read "do androids dream of electric sheep?" yesterday. I'm a Philip K Dik fan now

Two eps into this and it seems relevant to modern times.

Ridley Scott is a gd genius.

First thing noticed was the origami crossover with Bladerunner.

I thought the show was fantastic. Read the book several times. I might just binge this series again.

Never seen it. Worth it? Does it take a while to build up?

You enter into the alternate reality described where the Axis won WWII. I don't recall much exposition of how this world came to be. I recall it being a slow build to what the whole point is, which is some films that show a different history - our history, and how the Nazis are looking for these films. The depiction of life in America as a Nazi state is well done. The series does eventually delve far more into science fiction in later seasons.

I believe the cause was the Nazis figured out the A-bomb first instead of us and took out pentagon/DC.

Good show but the ending was pretty weird/wtf

There was a pretty good thread about the show when it was current, someone should bump that one.

Season 1 is kinda slow but it takes almost the whole season for world-building. Seasons 2 and 3 are pretty good. Season 4 is fantastic and some of the best TV I've ever seen and the ending was one of the most wtf I've ever seen. Kinda got the vibe they just threw everything at the wall and didn't know how to end it, so it's basically like the Simpsons episode where the kids gets stranded on an island and the voice-over at the end says something like "and eventually the kids learned to exist as a society and were rescued by...oh let's just say Moe."

Spoiler Alert:

There are also certain characters who can change from one alternate reality to the other.

It's a great show overall and has imo, one of the best characters in recent memory in John Smith

Pretty much! The last episode wasn't even that bad until the last...what was it, 15-20 minutes?

Agreed.

I'm going off memory here, but the scenes around his son's disability were especially riveting.

I could never make it past about 4 episodes in season one.

When you say the last 15-20 minutes completely sucks, I immediately think of pretty much every Stephen King book. Let me guess....a giant space turtle? Gang bang by childhood friends?

Yeah, I thought season 1 was a grind and I almost bailed on it, but I powered through it because of the recommendations I got from friends. It took me a while to figure out who I thought I'd root for and my rooting interests changed as the show went on. I'd say if you're bored, it's worth a re-watch.
