Been avoiding this thread until I finished the show. I think yall have pretty much covered it. I really enjoyed it as well.
Same. From the opening credits, I was hooked. 80's on 80's on 80's.

A kid in the late 70's and early 80's would be left to jump on his bike first thing in the morning, hopefully come home for 15 minutes to wolf down a lunch, and then come home around dusk for dinner, without any supervision. You called home if you wanted to spend the night at your buddy's. You were free to ride all over town to fish, play baseball, go to 7-11 for video games, play D&D or Atari at someone's house, build a fort, whatever. This show nailed that freedom perfectly and made me sad that our kids don't have that.
Brilliantly stated. 100% true.

Who is the monster or what is the monster?

[sp]It's Eleven, of course. http://uproxx.com/tv/is-eleven-the-monster-stranger-things-theory-spoilers/[/sp]

My son is amazed watching Super 8 that kids just took off and biked all over town and never checked in or had any way to be reached. And snuck out of the house at night. And snuck out the car at night in middle school.

I just finished and thought it was fabulous. It's in contention for my favorite Netflix show.

Finished the series last night and really liked it. I'm definitely not an 80's kid but grew up watching and loving all the classics.

My two cents would be that hop has made a deal with the agency to help protect their secret in hopes that he is somehow able to communicate with his daughter.

Looking forward to season two!

It's absolutely ridiculous how much you guys have focused on the ****ing bikes. Let it go.

Yeah, lets forget about the bikes...

and focus on the Trident gum in the supermarket (2001)

CPR given to Will in the upside down is 30 chest compressions to 1 breath (ratio not adopted until 2010)

Millennium Falcon had clear plastic engine stickers (70s/80s version had orange stickers)

Jack in the Box Pez dispenser (1999)

Dish network satellite dish (1994)

Periodic table has elements discovered after 1983

Hanz Holzer's 1990 book Great American Ghost Stories on shelf

Forgive me if I missed it, but did anyone who discussed the bikes say it ruined the show for them? It's a side discussion of a prop that doesn't fit the time period. Can you please provide for us a list of acceptable topics to talk about in this thread?

I came across a theory that Eleven is the monster, two sides of the same person. I thought it was a little silly, but then I remembered another 80's movie, The Dark Crystal and thought they may be on to something.

Just binged the series, loved it! Count me in on the Winona fan club, her performance didn't bug me one bit- she played the crazy-but actually not crazy role well IMO

This thread now officially exemplifies Texags....

Posts are suggesting and linking theories that were just suggested and linked five posts before theirs...

Posts try to ignite conversation on a particular topic, even though that topic has been discussed ad nauseam...

People begin arguing about minutiae...

Posts are calling out those previous discussions as being too nitpicky.....

Posts are calling out THAT post for criticizing what other people talk about....

Yep, its official, Stranger Things us a Texags hit!

All that's missing is for Season 2 to be really bad and 80% of the posters defending for no other reason than it's a "slow burn".

Yep, that and a couple of "elitist" labels being tossed around.

Pretty good interview with the creators - didn't see it posted in the tread yet:

It's a shame we can't discuss these shows in real time. I love the Netflix model and all, but a show like Stranger Things deserves a week-long digest per episode.

They way of the "Lost" threads are gone i think. It sucks because those threads actually enhanced the show.

Naw, now that I can binge watch a show and then hop on here to discuss the entire season at once I'll never say that waiting a week between episodes is better.

But you know, if the networks aired shows like they did in the past, then I wouldn't have much of a problem with spacing episodes out one week at a time. But they don't do that anymore. These days you're lucky to get 3 episodes in a row before they take a week off for some sort of special. And then of course they won't air new episodes during the Holidays because they just absolutely have to air 500 different Christmas specials. So we now have the "Winter Break" which only lasts until March if we're lucky. Hell, by the time the final episode of the Season airs I usually can't remember what happened in episode 1!

So I'll take the Netflix binge method over the conventional network's airing strategy any day.

Yeah. I actually got a little bored binging it to be honest. I didn't finish as I figured the later episodes couldn't be as good as the first few.

Man Ive watched GOT off and on. I actually think it got better by season 5, but I'm still struggling to maintain interest. Rooting against Ramsay is what I live for though

Another mistake is that they didn't have anyone named Corey. Even in a small town you'd have at least a dozen Coreys back in the 80's.

Corey wasn't even in the top 20 for 70s or 80s. Except in your neighborhood.

Holy crap who watches a show taking the time to investigate things like that. Sounds like a fun person to me.
