Anyone else seen this? Saw the trailer (posted below) and went to see it as soon as possible afterward.

It's extremely dark in some scenes, absurd in most, and often hilarious(ly dry). I really enjoyed it and had it stay with me the last few days since seeing it. Definitely thought-provoking as well as sad and funny. I won't spoil the movie by getting into detailed discussion in the OP, but here's the trailer for those who haven't seen it:

Very, very weird movie. There are some funny moments in it, but it is quite dark overall. Set in a not-very-distant dystopia, it makes you think about what it means to be in a relationship. Well-acted. I've never seen anything quite like it. I would not watch it again.

I'm not a bleeding heart but I have a hard time believing no animals were harmed during the filming of that movie.

It had its moments but I was hoping for more humor. I doubt I will ever watch this movie again but the idea sounded pretty original so I figured I'd see it in the theaters before it got spoiled. Truth be told there is not much to spoil.

Anyone have any thoughts about the opening sequence?

I assumed the shooter knows the animal from its previous existence, and is perhaps jealous it has found companionship.

Finally saw this. I think I'm still lost a day later. How bizarre. Still now sure what to think. I know I'm glad I watched. But after that is have nothing more to say yet.

What a weird movie.

My wife and I watched this last night. She is a literature and philosophy major.

She said the movie had a ton of references to this old German book.

We both thought it was OK, but too long. Needed some editing.

I haven't read The Magic Mountain in 40 years, but I really studied it as I read it and knew a fair amount about what Mann was up to in the book.

If it's not too much trouble, would you mind asking your wife for some specific ways the movie alludes to the book?

My wife and I tried to watch this, but hit the eject button about half way through.

At first, the oddities made you think about the subject matter (what would I do, what are they trying to say, etc), or made you chuckle. But after a while, the affect wore off, and it was just weird.

When he selected the crazy lady to pair up with, over the needy lady...that started the decline for me. He provided his reasoning in one line, but it contradicted the very reason was there.

If the story or characters were worth it, I'd have stuck it out...but my 'give a dang' broke about halfway through.

Watched this the other night. I liked it. Didn't take it too seriously, and I think that is for the better. I definitely would want to be an animal vs with the needy woman...however, she did offer unlimited swallows though that typically end with marriage.

Wow - don't know I stumbled into this one. Ever since a tremendous performance in Phone Booth, I was a Colin Farrel fan. And I was pleasantly surprised to see John C. Reilly and Lea Seydoux. The director is Greek, and boy do they like their humor dark

TLDR: If you like quirky/dystopian and dark humor on the verge of comfortable, give this a go.
