How long do you want to ignore this user?
Comes out next week. I know we'd discussed it on other threads, but I guess now it's time to have its own.

This is Taylor Sheridan's directorial debut (writer of Sicario and Hell or High Water). Both of those films are in my top 10 over the last handful of years, so I'm really excited to see what this produces.

Currently at 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Consensus seems to be that it's really good, even with a few issues here or there. The back story of how Sheridan got into writing and now directing is really fascinating to me, and he seems like a genuine hard worker who is dedicated to his craft.

Ttt. Can't tell if Aug 4 is still the release date or Aug 11.

Was anyone able to see this yet?

Saw it today in Dallas. Liked it quite a bit. Not as good as HoHW but more than I liked Sicario. On mobile so may post more later.

Just got back. Great movie. Not quite as good as Hell Or High Water, but still excellent.

Hope Taylor Sheridan keeps doing his thing... Also I'd love to see him try a novel. That guy can write some dialogue.

Two spoiler questions for anyone who has seen it...

What did Jeremy Renner see by the mountain lion den that tipped him off? It looked like snow mobile tracks that led down to the drill site, but how did he go from that, to radioing to the police to get away from the door because he knew they were dangerous?

I don't know what the hell the issue is, but the spoiler tag is not working for my second question

I think it was that the tracks led to the drilling camp. He visually followed the tracks and saw, through binoculars, the security detail and the sheriff's posse. Tipped him off that's where the boyfriend's bidy came from.

Saw it tonight. Liked it a lot, but enjoyed Sicario more. Have not seen HoHW, but that's next on the list.

I really likes Sicario. HOHW blows it away.

Really, really good. Man I'm rooting for Sheridan. Love his storytelling.

A few sound edit issues and the way some scenes were shot seemed odd, but for a directorial debut it was fantastic. Really impressed with Elizabeth Olsen.

MEMO TO HOLLYWOOD: More original movies shot on location. For the love of God.

he knew down at the druggie camp house that the drill site was on the other side or th eridge, but I think more importantly he surmised that the boyfriend was eaten up by mountain lions when he found the body previously. So law enforcement went to the drill site (where the predator may be) and he went back to where the boyfriend was found (where they've been.)

When he got up there he saw the lion tracks and found the den, which was in an area where the sled tracks had stopped from the way he came up. But, next to the den, he noticed the sled tracks leading down the other side to the drill camp, and knew immediately it was someone or people from the drill site who dumped the boyfriends body.

I think the natural jump to knowing they were dangerous was that he saw both groups walking towards the boyfriend's trailer. I can't remember if that was before or after the mexican standoff, but my guess is he now knew the situation and was telling the chief they're dangerous, and the chief realized when no one was opening the door that something bad was about to happen.

They were both bad ass flicks.

As is Wind River, or so I hear.

Whoa. Way better than I expected. highly recommend.

Is Taylor Sheridan the most kickAss writer in Hollywood right now? Sicario, Hell or High water and this one are exceptional work

Wind River is a really good movie. Maybe Renner should get nominated for an Academy Award for his performance. The movie did a great job of creating a sense of place.

The transition to the flashback was really well done if you remember how that scene started.

I love original movies like this... this is why I go to the movies.

Renner was really good. It's interesting see him being either really hot or really cold in some of his acting gigs.

Went and saw it this weekend and would put it ahead of Sicario and behind Hell or High Water.

One issue that I couldn't get over was the snowmobile tracks. The first time it is mentioned is at the brother's house when Renner sees them going to where the boyfriends body ultimately is. The trail starts from the brother's house but doesn't come back making him know there is a something/someone still out there. Then when they go to the refinery and Renner comes in from where he found the boyfriends body the trail ultimately comes from the refinery.

What doesn't make sense to me was why is there a trail from the brother's house to the boyfriend's body?

Other things that I loved about the movie that normal hollywood movies would have forced:

-Not having Renner and Olsen turn into a love story. Hollywood would have normally had the scene in Renner's house turn into a sex scene and a forced love story.

-Not tying Renner's daughter's death to the refinery guys. How often do we have to see things be coincidental just to advance the story. Good for them to leave the mystery of his daughter's event, and it set up the text at the end of the movie perfectly.

excellent movie! I put this right up there with HOHW, and above Sicario. Sheridan's name is now my clear cut #1 name attached to any movie project. Whether as a writer or now as a Director. Incredibly well done! very sad like annie said, but so amazingly put together.

Finally got to see this and loved it. I think I like it just as much as HOHW. I'll now watch anything Sheridan is involved with. I thought for a second Renner was going to take that rapist guy at the end and tie him up for the lions.

I also liked how Jon Berthnal's character ended up being a good guy that went down fighting to save Natalie. When they first mentioned he was an older guy working on the rigs I thought he was going to be some manipulative a**hole but it was a nice surprise.

For some reason, in between hurt locker and the avengers, I was annoyed with Renner (maybe Bourne) He completely redeemed himself to me in this film. Bad ass character.

I immediately knew he was going to make him die like the girl did, but I can see why you thought that. Funny! I think that is the more obvious end, but it never crossed my mind the lion's were an option.

And I agree about Renner. He was fantastic and definitely worthy of a best actor nod.

Good question. I honestly don't know one way or another. I would guess eventually he went back and killed them. I don't think he did it at the time before heading to the rig campsite.

Interesting how Bernthal had a similar- halfway through the movie- shorter role ala Sicario.

Great movie. I liked it equal with Sicario - HoHW was above both though in my opinion.

3 things:
action scenes were GREAT. Mexican standoff and the following shootout.

Landscape and terrain shots made the movie that much more captivating.

My one complaint was Renner's quick 1-liners equating hunting to being a good detective. "Hey, I hunt predators for a living...so that means I'm good at locating humans who killed this girl."

But I would absolutely watch this again in theaters and will recommend it to anyone.
