Awesome to hear. I don't know why, but I keep trying to resist seeing this, even though all I've heard is effusive praise. It just doesn't look all that appealing to me, but I know I'll end up enjoying it. Next weekend may be my catch-up weekend, though, with this and a couple others I've been holding out on / haven't had the time to see lately.

Regardless, thanks for the rundown. This was the final push I needed.

I saw this the day it came out. I was really looking forward to it.

The kids and acting were all superb, but it felt overly long and without order to reach the end. Aside from a profession change, the movie could have been filmed in any order and had no significant buildup.

It simply showed the daily ongoings of a dysfunctional mother who tries to raise a kid the way she knows...

3.75 to 4/5 for me.

Ha, well... that was depressing. Very well done, and definitely a great movie overall, but man, between this and Only the Brave on back-to-back nights, bring on Thor: Ragnarok. I desperately need something that's just flat out fun.

But yeah, I can see why everyone is so into this. It's incredibly unique, and so well acted, but it's just one of those movies where you want to constantly scream at every single character, save for Dafoe's (who was fantastic as well). That, and I have to agree about the length. It could have easily been trimmed down quite a bit. It's 45 minutes shorter than Blade Runner 2049, but somehow felt twice as long to me.

Regardless, I could definitely see this one gaining Oscar steam over the next couple of months. It just has that feel, but we'll see...

"The star of the show is six year-old Brooklynn Prince and you won't see a better child performance this year. She's a bit of a brat, but you see most of the movie through her eyes and can't help but feel for her. She and her friends are great as modern-day Little Rascals, every day for them is an adventure. "

Just wanted to say this is a hilarious couple sentences if you read it in the voice of Stefon from SNL

Went to the theater yesterday to watch this. Have to say I loved it. It's not for everyone, and I can definitely understand someone seeing it as slow, but I was fascinated the whole time. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I left the theater. I thought the acting was pretty stellar. Very impressed with the little girl and also impressed with the mother. Hard to believe she's never acted and was simple discovered on Instagram. Willem Dafoe was perfect. And tears flew out of my eyes at the end. Sat in my chair for a good 5 minutes when the end titles came on.

I'm not sure if Bria Vinaite will receive an Oscar nomination. She was good but not sure Hollywood is ready to give a first time actress an Oscar nom. Willem Dafoe will definitely get one, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Brooklynn Prince get a nomination. I am sure they will get lots of other awards along the way.

Just watched it and really enjoyed it. Then the ending came and I literally said out loud "What the f was that?" It was a jarring ending. It will be interesting to see how it stays with me.

Having three little kids myself it was just so sad to see how some kids have to live. ">

Very interesting movie, just not sure how I would have rather it ended. Sad that there are kids out there whose normal life mirrors these conditions.

Just saw this movie on Amazon Prime. I echo the positive comments on here. Harsh movie, but the acting and scenery just felt so real. They masterfully captured the curiosity and imagination of kids on the backdrop of this poor and depressing lifestyle.

Definitely a depressing movie, but very well made and recommended if you like these kinds of shows.

Caught this movie on an airplane between the USA and Australia. I usually do about 4 movies per flight so sometimes I'll take a chance on a movie like this. If Willem Dafoe hadn't been in it, I probably would have skipped it.

Having lived in the shadow of Hollywood myself and having had many friends in LA living on the fringe, working cash only jobs and doing some of the things portrayed in this movie, it just depressed the hell outta me.

Without spoiling the movie, the line that keeps echoing in my head from this movie is the bit about - "You can't judge me, I am a good mother". I've got a 3x divorced white trash cousin who this character totally reminds me of.

I've had friends living week to week in hotels like this one and this is just some depressing stuff.

I'm halfway through this movie and getting more and more pissed off. Kids running around like wild animals, parents that don't give a *****

It's just a hard watch.
