Ummmm.....wow.

For some reason, I always thought that this was going to be a Luc Besson film, but I see that it's actually Robert Rodriguez (!) directing from a James Cameron script.

I love that, from that trailer, I can't tell just how much of Alita is mo-cap (besides her arms, of course). Her eyes? Her whole face? Her whole body? I know that there is motion capture done for her, but what? Pretty amazing.

I am slightly confused, parts of it look completely CGI (looks bad if its supposed to be real looking and fine if it is all CGI) and some parts look real.

Yeah I did too. Dialogue is a little cheesy, but it was a lot of fun. It's getting mixed reviews, which surprised me.

I saw it last week and really enjoyed it. I hope it does well enough for a sequel, I'd like to see where they would go next.

Surprised there's not more activity on this thread, really good audience reviews (better than critics) and it's done pretty well at the box office.

Saw it over the weekend and it's a lot of fun, if you're into action scifi you'll enjoy it. The story is decent with some solid performances but the end drags out a bit, it's one of those you think is going to end a few different times.

My big note is that the VFX are stellar, among the best we've seen on the big screen IMO. The environment design is gritty and grungy and all the CG feels really grounded and totally integrated into the world. Really great work.

Saw it today and really enjoyed it. The big eye styling was never enough to really take me out of what was happening on screen. Hopefully they get to follow through with the sequel they set up for. I wouldn't mind seeing a prequel movie as well, showing more depth into Alita's origins. Only real complaint for me is that the motor ball sequence was too short. I would have liked a few more minutes of that, but you can only have so much when the movie is already a bit over 2 hours.

Saw it tonight. Great action scifi flick. Directed/scripted by the same from Avatar and its based on a graphic novel so its story has a good base. Part 2 should be good.

Just saw it - not bad. It's refreshing to see a movie with a new concept instead of endless sequels and retreads. I'm kind of hoping for a sequel.

In this case I'm assuming because it was based on a Japanese comic and they wanted to differentiate her a bit.

In anime, just the style that's evolved over time though it still varies from artist to artist.
