Why do these movies and Japanese anime choose the big eye look? It's chidlike. Is that really an appeal? Why? Seriously asking. Never understood it.,..again not knocking it. Just curious.

Early Japanese anime was heavy influenced by Betty Boop... #googlesearch #wikipediagenius

Yeah, well, you know, that's just like, uh, your opinion, man.

Just got home from this. This was pretty damn good. As far as anime/manga adaptations go, this one was well done.

This was a very good movie. Great character development. You actually care what happens to the characters!

Better than Captain Marvel fo sho.

Saw it last night. Son and I enjoyed it. Felt like it was cramming way too much into the picture though.

Didn't know about the James Cameron connection but when the boyfriend falls from the cable and into the clouds; I thought to myself they were ripping off Titanic. Now it makes sense.

If anything I think it is the other way around, the original Battle Angel manga ran from 1990-1995 and the original OVA came out in 1993. Titanic came out in 1997. And that scene is pretty similar to the OVA.

It didn't even cross my mind how similar the plots are for this and Captain Marvel.

Finally got around to seeing this one....and I have to say, I really enjoyed it, as did everyone that was with me.

This was the last film that was released by 20th Century Fox as a standalone studio and distributor.

Finally saw this.

Not great but not bad. Did a great job of world building without bogging us down on details. The robot ball scenes were fantastic. I would have loved to seen more scenes with the hunter killers.

I'm glad they killed the boyfriend. I enjoy the actor who played Vector. Too bad they didn't give him more scenes.

Watched this the other night along with Shazam. Definitely way better than Shazam (and Captain Marvel).

I enjoyed all 3 but Alita would be last place of them.

Numbers look good for getting a sequel. Made back over 2x its budget so far.

The disparity in US Domestic versus Foreign is interesting to me.
I'd never heard of this movie but last week when I was flying from Madrid-Dubai-Sydney, this movie was on a lot of the screens in Economy Class on Emirates. I haven't watched it yet but what I saw on other people's screens reminded me of Rollerball.

Rented this tonight off redbox. Pleasantly surprised - thought it was a really good movie. Story, acting, CGI - nothing really let me down. Really hope they make a sequel.

This is a really great subtle humblebrag post. It's got everything: Madrid, Dubai, Sydney, distinction from those pesky economy class people, and of course Emirates.

Watching this film right now on from first class on AA from BOS to DFW. Not quite as exciting.

The movie is great so far.

I don't fly anywhere that takes long enough to watch a whole movie. Took me three flights to finish Molly's Game.

Just finished this and loved it. Not really relevant anymore, but I agree with a few others that this movie was better than Captain Marvel and Shazam! Which were both average films.

Hope they make a sequel!

Critics suck. While somewhat cliche, every moment in the movie was entertaining. This deserves a sequel more than Avatar.

I watched on a plane as well. United Polaris from Barcelona to DC. I'm not sure flying United counts as bragging though

I thought the movie was well done and a lot of fun. Ending was a little unsatisfying, but I assume they are just following the manga which goes on for another 20 books or something. I'd watch a sequel.

Randomly caught the first five minutes of this on HBO late last night, got sucked in, and ended up watching the whole thing. While it's no doubt aimed at kids/teens, is a little hammy at times, and there's a bit too much CGI for my taste, despite the critical response... this was actually pretty entertaining. To the point where I'm now even kind of curious about a sequel. Cameron wrote this like 15 or so years ago, decided to do Avatar instead, and a lot of the beats feel like things we've seen since, but big chunks of it are Cameron through and through, in the best way, and I would have been curious to see his more gritty/adult version. Still, this version is better than the trailers/response made it out to be, and is totally worth your time if you looking for something to watch while stuck at home.

You could have saved yourself lots of words and started my post.

The anime movie was pretty good.

This is almost an exact replica of it.
