Adam McKay (Lego Batman) is being eyed for this, though it's still early, but this would be interesting for what it means to his involvment with DC's Nightwing.

Nonetheless, I'd love to see a proper D&D movie. It really lends itself to successful blockbusters, just needs to get off on the right foot.

From what I understand of D&D they'll sell us a great main plot but we'll spend 3 hours on a meaningless side plot.

you have to roll a 20 for it to be a decent movie.

It should be 100% in the D&D world - not have a players' world component.

Base it on Keep on the Borderland, place it in The Forgotten Realms, and have it be a focus on a group like Guardians of the Galaxy.

I have fond memories of the cartoon.

Sadly my friends weren't allowed to watch it, because devil stuff.

Wasn't there a D&D movie released in like 2000? Hope this is better than that one.

Yes and one of the main villains was a bald dude with blue lipstick.

Every fantasy trope basically comes from Tolkien.

While I totally understand this idea, Tolkien himself pulled from previous works of fantasy. Like Beowulf.

Any narration/voice-over work needs to be done by a Level 25 Dungeon Master, or higher.

Yes, but I guess my point was that D&D has no one story. It's whatever the DM makes up, so you could basically take any story and say it's D&D.

I thought everyone knew this! Didn't you see Eowyn roll a natural 20 right before she killed the Witch King?

Given to my son by grandma, who apparently kept them from when dad had them 30 years ago.

I grew up playing D&D in its hey day and when everyone was making fun of it. It helped that we were also into sports, music, and everything else.

Decades later there is a business three miles from our home that hosts role playing games, which to my surprise are making a comeback. I brought my sons to introduce them to D&D and they drew everyone's attention by showing up with my old pewter figurines from the 70s and 80s, especially the draconians.

It's a different crowd of people, but as fun as ever.

The best Saturday Morning Cartoon of my childhood, narrowly beating out the Superfriends.

Ripping off Star Wars like no other: Dungeon Master = Yoda Venger = Darth Vader

Only down for a live-action movie if Willie Aames returns to be Hank the Ranger and Donnie Most shows up as Eric the Cavalier. Oh and Optimus Prime as Venger.

Best not-for-kids episode ever: Hank gets pissed of Venger stopping them everytime they almost get back home and concocts a plan to STRAIGHT UP MURDER VENGER.

I came to reference the cartoon, also. It was one of my favorites as a kid.

No one has mentioned the early 2000s move version of D&D, or the even crappier sequel. Not surprising.

Other than LOTR, fantasy movies have a hard time in the theater.
