Dear Texags,
I've never asked this question before but it's been on my mind for a long time.
I think Rush is garbage and cannot understand why anyone likes them. Am I the only one who feels this way? What am I missing?
I'm in the same boat as you. I personally cannot stand Rush. I understand why people like them but I just can't get into them. I do like a few songs like "Tom Sawyer", "Working Man", etc. but their catalog as a whole is a meh for me. Never could explain it. I proudly wear it as a badge. Don't let others get you down because you don't like them.Ol_Ag_02 said:

I don't hate The Who but I can certainly do without them. Neil Young has some good stuff and bad stuff. I can tolerate some of his songs. Someone mentioned DMB earlier and I don't think there is one redeeming quality of that band. I could never stand them and change the station anytime they come on. I'll listen to preaching if I have to for a few minutes.62strat said:Fuzzy Dunlop said:I'm in the same boat as you. I personally cannot stand Rush. While we're at it, I hate The Who.
And Neil Young.
I can understand someone not liking Rush but to say they are "garbage" is a bit over the top.Ol_Ag_02 said:

I'm a drummer that hates Neil Young, but I think the Who are pretty good.Average Joe said:

Why I've been a Rush fan for 30+ years:
Musicality.
Unique sound....nobody sounds like them and they are instantly recognizable.
Interesting, thought provoking lyrics
3 "good" guys. None went off the rails
Quote:
Alex Lifeson, guitarist for the veteran rock band Rush, was arrested following a New Year's Eve fight at a Naples, Fla., club, Billboard reported Friday.
Sheriff's deputies used a stun gun to halt disorderly, drunken and violent behavior by Lifeson, 50, and his 33-year-old son, Justin Zivojinovich, the report said.
Quote:
Lifeson faces charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, and disorderly intoxication.

I am the world's greatest air guitar player.
Thank you, that is all.
Talent wise I think they are excellent. Song wise, not so much. Pinball Wizard, Eminence Front and Baba O'Riley are good, but I don't care for the rest of their songs. And if I hear Who Are You or I Can See For Miles one more time my ears will bleed.MooreTrucker said:I'm a drummer that hates Neil Young, but I think the Who are pretty good.Average Joe said:

Eh, he's alright, but no real guitar technique. Just a lot of jumping and flailing.62strat said:MooreTrucker said:

Like them or not, a few of them are certainly very talented musicians. Beauford for sure, consistently ranked as a top drummer of all time, and doing that in an acoustic soft rock band is impressive enough. And Dave's playing is quite technical, especially when combined with singing.Fuzzy Dunlop said:Someone mentioned DMB earlier and I don't think there is one redeeming quality of that band. I actually like some of the not as overplayed songs like Can't Explain and Join Together and Goin' Mobile better than the ones you mentioned.Average Joe said:Talent wise I think they are excellent. Not having fun? does not compute:tysker said:
From a purely technical standpoint, Rush is great band however their music can often come across as dry, cold and almost academic. Because they want everything to be so perfect, it's like they forgot how to have fun.
