I'm thinking some of you guys just aren't listening to the right songs. If you're just sticking to what you've heard on your rock radio station, you're missing out. Like saying you don't like Soundgarden because you think Spoonman is not that great or you're sick of it.
  • Rush: Entre Nous, Circumstances, and Red Barchetta
  • Neil Young- Are you serious? Just listen to Live Rust
  • The Who - Wha?? Go listen to Live at Leeds.....with volume set at 11 and get back to me.

These bands aren't lauded for no reason. You just have to dig deeper.
Or maybe, just maybe, musical taste is subjective and not everyone will like everything you like.

Never really liked Rush beyond the hits.

Pretty sick of the Who's hits but I love most of everything else.

DMB has about a 50/50 rate for me. Can't remember album names but there's one I really liked. Great drummer. Not my normal thing but there's some good stuff.

I like Rush only when there is no singing. Can't stand the vocals. Must be why YYZ is my favorite song from them.

That's what knees are for. So you can drive and air drum at the same time.

How can anybody not play air drums during Tom Sawyer?? Same goes with air guitar on Eruption.
Or that drum break in "In the Air Tonight"

It's too bad this genius bit of editing was only for the trailer.

He's off at 3/4 seconds and again at 14/15 seconds.

Can you grade this guy's drumming?

It was when I saw it.

I think the air drum and the punch were 2 different scenes.

It's the same scene, but now that I think about it, there's a few seconds between the air drums and the punch.

There is at least one student that fits that description in 2018 -- my 19 y/o son. Rush is his favorite band. Luckily, he got to see them on the R40 tour.

Great job Dad. My son saw CWA and R40 with me. My daughter likes some of their stuff, but always calls me when she hears them out in public. She recognized La Villa Strangiato in an outlet store a few years ago. I credit Rush with teaching me how to listen to music, as such it broadened the genres that I listen to.

Ha, don't know what I'd have done if I had heard LVS while I was shopping!

Staying with that though, I too have thought about Rush giving me an advanced education in music as well. I listened to Hemispheres continually in 7th grade (what kid does that?), to the point that I lifted Trees for my English "poem submission" that year (got an A, of course). Hard to explain how jaded and "snobby" you get as you get older about pedestrian rock and roll...the kind that people get all pumped up at events, parties, etc and you sit there like a dud...

I hear what you're saying about the "pedestrian" rock, but it doesn't make it any less viable. If I'm stuck listening to something that bores me, I'll start to listen to the band as individuals and try to determine who's the best musician in that band. Music doesn't have to have million notes a bar to be effective.

Agreed.

I would be glad just for a new instrumental once per year or something.

A band as experimental and cerebral and innovative has to have a warehouse full of unreleased demos, wouldn't you think?

If you consider how their writing process worked, as described by Neil in the concert programs, whatever didn't make their albums must have been stuff they couldn't agree on or they didn't feel was worthy of publishing.

At this point, I think we would be happy with anything.

Probably the best AM/FM radio station ever in Texas was in San Antonio when I first heard their 1st album. 630 KMAC and KISS FM. They sorta blew me away. Got the 8 track tape and played in the Corvair cruising around BCS. KMAC and a station in Cleveland were the only ones at the time pushing them. They were instrumental in getting them off and running it has been said. My only wish is that they would have stayed the course with the harder rock sound presented in that first album.
Can't argue with the decision to modify that a bit as they went on to create some really awesome songs/albums.

Progressive Nerd rock at its finest.

Have most of their catalog on 8-track - some carts are rougher than others. I used to have a '76 Triumph Spitfire with an 8-track player. Good times. The Archives double-cart is pretty rare (and still sealed), and my copy of Power Windows is the only one known in existence (sealed or otherwise). Turned down $2k for that one, but skipped their last tour because I didn't want to shell out a couple hundred for a ticket. I'm an idiot.
