One of my favorite jazz guitarists of all-time is Django Reinhardt, a gypsy who lived in France in the first half of the 20th century. I was introduced to his music in a recording studio in Nashville around 1984, and loved his playing. I was stunned to find out later that at the age of 18, he was badly injured in a fire, and played pretty much with only his left index and middle finger, the 4th and 5th fingers being rendered virtually useless.

There aren't many video clips of him playing, but I've attached one for anyone interested.

Jerry Jeff Walker named his son Django Cody after him as I recall.

Yeah, that's the reason I know who this is.

I want to say Sean Penn played him in a movie. He was a secondary character. I have no recollection of what the movie was. I just remember Django was represented in it. Hard to forget name.

Are you thinking of Sweet and Lowdown?

There was another more recent movie just about him, but Sweet and Lowdown is the one I remember friends talking about.

I have the game Bioshock and Bioshock 2 to thank for introducing me to not only his music but many others from a different era. The sound track to those first two games are awesome.

Sweet and Lowdown is a cool movie. Penn plays a guitarist who plays in the style of Django and idolizes him. I saw it a long time ago and don't remember much more about the movie but I've been meaning to watch it again sometime.
