Networks are all searching for material to launch the next epic fantasy series, I read and loved Michael Moorcock's Elric books and always hoped a movie or show would be made. Moorcock's fantasy world is every bit as rich as Martin's ASOIAF world and some think he modeled Valyria after Melnibone. Has anyone else read and loved the Elric novels? Elric was the anti-hero long before Jon Snow was imagined.

To me, Elric was never a good character. Iiked the stories, just not the character.

I ran into him (Moorcock) in Austin back in the 90s (he used to ,and maybe still lives there), and got him to autograph an X-Men comic I had on me. (I had nothing else for him to sign).

If he is still in Austin I would love to get him to sign my original copy of the Elric Saga pt 1. I loved Weird of the White Wolf and Sailor on the Seas of Fate.

I'm still waiting on a faithful Dresden files adaptation. It would be a fantastic tv show and you could definitely throw in some of the side stories he has written over the years as well.

Unfortunately all we are getting is more Of the same with LOTR and GoT spin off. I will watch those gladly but there is so much material out there I want to see on the screen.

I am tempering my enthusiasm for both reboots. I think for the GOT prequels we are going to get a much lower cost production from HBO as I don't think they are wanting to get into another money pit like GOT.

I think LOTR is going to be old and played out, what else could they have the hobbits doing?

So you think they are going to focus on when Sauron crafted the ring? I guess that would be cool.

I just want amazon/ Netflix / hbo to branch out and do ANY new fantasy setting. I don't really trust anyone else to do a decent job.

There is so much material out there and the fantasy setting has never been more popular in pop culture so it is the perfect time.

Amazon is doing the Lord of the Rings and Netflix is doing The Witcher. I think the Kingkiller Chronicles are coming to Showtime.

You're gonna see a lot more with the success of GoT

edit: Didn't see your post about Lord of the Rings. But I think you're gonna continue to get new material.

per Wikipedia, there is hope....:

In the 1990s, Moorcock moved to Texas in the United States. His wife Linda is American. He spends half of the year in Texas, the other half in Paris

So he spends all of his time in Texas?

The big studios are too busy making awful Superhero films that I don't think there is any worry they tackle the fantasy genre any time soon.
