What don't you like about DTV Now? I was just thinking about switching from DTV satellite to that, though I know next to nothing about it...
Well I've done trials of some other services. And generally have to say I like them all better.
But I still get DTV Now sort of grandfathered on the first adopter deal. It used to be $35 for what was at the time called the Go Big package - and I also got a lifetime $25/month credit for the ATT Unlimited wireless plan (they later reduced that offer to $15 credit I think) .
So it was effectively $35-$25 = $10/month and then free HBO too. But..... they've slowly been creeping that price up. I'm not sure how they justify it since I was guaranteed a lifetime deal but they bumped it by $5 three times. My net effective rate is now $50-$25 = $25 per month and free HBO. But if I ever cancel or switch I cannot get that back since the Go Big is not offered any more. That's the only reason I have not cancelled. It's still much cheaper than anything else.
But I've had many many issues with the service.
1. So locals sometimes work and sometimes don't. Primarily IF you IP address ever gives a ZIP code associated with it that does not match your billing zip code then your locals don't work on SOME interfaces (mostly web pages) but do still work on iPad and iPhone. weird. My zip was different than my IP address zip even though it was in the same metro region (Dallas) and literally the next zip to mine it would stop working. I tried messing with my billing zip to get them to match, etc.... did not work at all or a long time. It seems to be working now.
2. Sometimes it just won't load at all on some browsers, other times it does. Well the page loads and it shows the guide - but it just spins forever when you select a channel. Safari always seems to work. But Chrome and Firefox are dicey at times. I hate Safari but end up having to use it to watch a lot.
3. I hate the guide and it is not customizable at all - others let you customize the channel order and add or subtract them at will. DTV Now only has a favorite system, but you can't reorder them and it is just alphabetical listing so you cannot logically group channels.
4. the cloud DVR leaves a lot to be desired. Sure it is free but 20 hours and only keeps anything for 30 days - and no other options to upgrade that.
5. the guide is not accessible at all on browsers in fullscreen mode or even just maximized in the window - you have to exit fullscreen/maximized and pull up the guide. And the min pop up window then just seems to lag and freeze a lot while perusing the guide.
6. It's slow to load and play.
7. Default is for audio to be OFF/MUTED every time you start it up. the option menu has a setting for that but cannot change it.
MANY of these are issues with the browser interface - the APP is a lot better i think. And even on Apple TV the App is much better.I watch on browser a lot in my office on second monitor.
