I hear you, but you're also making a lot of assumptions (as are many in this thread). First of all, Tarantino didn't write this. I'm sure, if he directs, he'll give it his own polish of course, but this is simply based on an *idea* he had, not some mandate that it be filled with blood and guts and cussing and that the writers ape his style or anything like that. It's also worth noting that Tarantino is not only one of the biggest fanboys there is, but he also
understands and revers fandom the cinema history like few others. So I seriously doubt he'd show up and just start sh*tting all over the
Star Trek name/brand in the name of making it "his." I just see this as being
unfiltered, not necessarily
Tarantino, if that makes sense.
If anything, I think about Bill's speech that Tarantino wrote for the end of
Kill: Bill Vol. 2...
Quote:
When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears the glasses, the business suit that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He's weak, he's unsure of himself, he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race.
Wasn't that an interesting take on the character? Just in a simple little speech, Tarantino was able to make me see Superman in a whole new way. Who's to say he won't bring that same, "Oh, wow, I've never thought of it like that" level of thought and care to Kirk or Spock? And why wouldn't you at least want to see him try?
