Yeah, Hateful Eight was just Kill Bill repackaged.

They should definitely set this in the mirror verse. It's much better suited as a humanity F-Yeah universe(Terran Empire) rather than the utopian federation. That and cast Samuel Jackson. Tell me this isn't a better canvas for Tarantino:

I hope the whole story takes place on a holodeck, and involves Kirk and crew engaging in four loosely connected plot lines about gangsters in the mid 90s whose stories intertwine in unexpected ways (with "real" dialogue, mind you). When they get to the end, nothing is really resolved for either the audience or the holodeck participants.

The original star trek was awesome in so many ways, though truth be told more than half the episodes sucked.

The first 2 movies were decent. The reat SUCKED

Tng was so sterile - picard was solid but it was a pretty weak cast too

Its really been downhill from there.

I tried to watch the most recent pilot with that twd girl....just so bad

The recent movies have some redeeming qualities but generally everything has been a wasted opportunity. Maybe qt can do better.

I am in as long they they do not blow up the enterprise again. That has been done like a dozen times after never happening.

Completely disagree. I still stop and watch TNG to this day when it's randomly playing on some cable channel. I thought the storylines were great for the most part and Brent Spiner did a fabulous acting job as Data. The first season was a little clunky, but then the show really came into its own, IMO.

The writing was pretty good iirc.

Data was a really, really cheap substitute for spock imo, always cringeworthy i thought. That cheesy first officer ...nope. The annoying kid. Nope. The engineer with the shades....idk, im glad you liked it, it just didnt do it for me. Neither did the style or special effects. I actually prefer tos effects over tng.

QT is played out. We know his schtick. Nothing is fresh anymore. He doesn't adapt, he repackages.

This sounds like a very terrible idea.

It's nice to laugh at something so stupid so early in the morning. Gets the day started off right.

Did you actually watch all the seasons or just stop after the first two? The show changed after Roddenberry's involvement scaled back dramatically after about half way through the third and you could definitely feel it.

Eh, there's been some highs and lows in both the films and tv shows. Deep Space 9 is my favorite of the shows, but the TOS crew movies, some of Generarions, and First Contact are generally regarded as good additions to the franchise.

Yes, Discovery sucks for a multitude of reasons. Those currently helming the shows clearly don't understand what the universe is.

Not to mention that CBS has been accused of ripping off a game named Tardegrades (spelling?) in a lot of ways, and I believe there's an ongoing legal case for that.

I took the quotes to mean that it would be a "Star Trek like" film and not necessarily an installment in the Star Trek franchise. In other words, Tarantino plans on doing to the space voyage genre what he did to the spaghetti western. Sci-Fi is pretty much the only genre he hasn't done aside from the Rom Com (and I don't count Destiny, because he did not write or direct). Would love to see his choices in the final frontier: a galaxy far far away .

Wouldn't put it past QT to do his own modern Grendel.

For some reason, this topic reminds me of the Sam Peckinpah's Salad Days sketch from Monty Python.

I imagine the guy in the Starfleet Budget Department to be like Emperor Palpatine in that Robot Chicken sketch:

"What? What? Are you f-ing KIDDING me!??? What do you mean, 'they blew up the Enterprise again'? Who's 'they'???!!?? What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon??? You know, that last one wasn't even paid off yet!
....
Oh, 'just build another one.' And who's going to pay for it, jackass? You? You going to beam me up $100 billion dollars for another Enterprise? Can that food replicator thing replicate cash? Huh?

F-ing Kirk......."

If the plot involves anything like man eating tribbles or a world full of women looking to enslave men for their sex harems I'm in.

Fun trivia bit, Tribbles were apparently once mortal enemies of the Klingon Empire.

For your second idea, so you're kind of wanting a movie length pron featuring Orion women using their abilities on a bunch of people?

Overall, I enjoyed TNG the most...The inner light was the single best episode of any Star Trek series.

As far as QT, the franchise has already been ruined by Abrams, who turned it from a a thinking person's series with metaphor, themes etc to a wannabe marvel series, QT can't do much worse.

I don't see how anyone could have watched either The Final Frontier or Nemesis and think Abrams ruined the franchise.

Because the depth that oragator mentions is still present in The Final Frontier when it comes to Spock and Sybock but also Spock, Kirk, and McCoy and their relationship, and again in Nemesis when it comes to Data and B4, and Picard and Shinzon. There's quite a lot of commentary in the movies that was done well, both on the human condition and world events. This would be largely absent in the 2009 and Into Darkness.

With Spock Prime in the 2009 movie, we had an interesting dynamic between him and Abrams-verse Spock not mention Kirk and the relationship between him and Pike. All that seems to take a back seat to action in Into Darkness, and the fact that it felt like it heavily walked on ground we had already been didn't help.

IMO, Beyond was a return to form for the franchise but the damage from the preceding movie was already done. I would have really liked to see another movie where Simon Pegg had a hand in the story. There's not only a lot of character development, but also introspection done by characters.

Paging Rian Johnson. We've got someone here who didn't get their expectations subverted enough.

I think the short answer is that there a difference between making a mediocre movie and completely gutting what the franchise had been about for almost half a century. The timeline change that essentially wiped out the entire history of the franchise was the final slap in the face, and fitting for what that movie was.
But to each their own:

I'm not trying to say that Into Darkness was a particularly good Star Trek movie, I just didn't think it ruined the franchise or anything. But Nemesis and The Final Frontier were just absolutely horrible movies.

It seems like we probably both agree that the 2009 Star Trek was good, I thought it had plenty of character depth to go along with an interesting story and everything else.

So I guess I just don't see how Into Darkness could 'ruin' the entire franchise, and like you said, I think Beyond was actually a pretty good installment. Certainly at least in the middle tier of Star Trek movies.

But even before Abrams is not like Star Trek movies were all so unassailable that it would be blasphemous for someone like Tarantino to take a stab at one.
bobinator

It didn't really 'wipe out the history of the franchise.' All that stuff still happened (and is still happening.)

I liked Into Darkness...the one after was worthless though.
