Fun side note, it was co-written by the dude who played little Enis in Smokey and the Bandit (Paul Williams), who also wrote a ton of other things, including the Love Boat theme and hits for Three Dog Night, Helen Reddy, The Carpenters and more recently Daft Punk. He is in the song writers hall of fame. Underrated talent.

Rainbow Connection is not a cheesy song, it's one of the best songs of all-time.
