Russell Smith, lead singer of the Amazing Rhythm Aces, passed away July 12th.

Russell wrote virtually all of the songs for the Aces, and was successful in writing songs for other artists as well (Old School - John Conlee, Look Heart No Hands - Randy Travis, Big Ol' Brew - Mel McDaniel, etc.) His best known song was "Third Rate Romance", first a hit with the Aces and later when covered by Sammy Kershaw.
He was a good guy, funny, and a great talent - one of a kind voice.
