For me it's Soundgarden, AudioSlave, and Temple of the Dog.

As my username would suggest, I am a huge Pearl Jam Fan.

CC never did it for me.

Then I went and saw a "The Chris Cornell Experience".

And now I'll a huge CC fan and it's too late.

That being said I was never a huge Pearl Jam fan until I saw them live.

Who you guys got?

I really miss Soundgarden. They were SO DAMN GOOD.

Great thread. To answer your question, I'd say Primus. Had some buddies introduce me to them in '90/'91. Hated them big time. Even saw them live when they opened for Rush in Feb '92. They did a badass version of Kashmir but other than that still didn't get it.

Then sometime around 10 years ago the lights came on for me and I just can't get enough. Les Claypool is a genius.

Not really too late since I just saw them for the first time, but Cheap Trick. I know everybody knows "I want you to want me" but man the rest of their stuff is pretty damn good. I was surprised at how much of their other songs I'd known and heard before. Also, Rick nielsen is a bad ass on guitar. Watch some of their music videos.

Really didn't get into Springsteen and Led Zeppelin until after college.

BTW for fellow Springsteen fans his bio, "Born to Run" is worth the read/listen. He narrates the Audible version himself. Cool to listen to him.

Alice in Chains. I knew their hits when I was in HS, but didn't get into the rest of their music until a couple of years ago.

White Stripes. By the time I started paying attention to their music beyond Fell in Love With a Girl and Seven Nation Army, the band was about done. I would have loved to see them in concert when they released Elephant.

Oh that's a great call. Jack White is brilliant.

There are definitely bigger bands I got into later but one that sticks out is Bad Religion. They are one of my favorite bands now and didn't get into them until after college. However I had seen them in concert three times before (Opening for Blink-182 in 2000, Warped Tour '02, '04) and since I wasn't into them it was basically white noise and I don't remember it.

I've seen them in concert since but it's a bummer I literally saw them on their tours for my favorite two albums (The Process of Belief '02, and The Empire Strikes First '04) but since I wasn't into them at the time I have no memory of it at all.

Didn't start listening to My Morning Jacket until Z released in 2005. Now one of my top 3 bands. Missed seeing them at a small venue and always think about how great it would have been.

I listened to my first Guy Clark song the day he died.

(Not to include all the covers I hadn't previously attributed to him)

I guess The Killers.

I was actively resisting them throughout high school because of their extreme popularity, and I didn't realize the genius of Hot Fuss until I was in college, around 07 or so. Went to see them on their Sam's Town tour and was instantly a huge fan.

The Beatles

I never got to see them live because the band broke up and one of the main guys died right after I was born.

I get into all bands "too late". It's usually after they've amassed a good body of work that I start listening. I'm not usually an early adopter of music.

I've gone deep on Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and ZZ Top in the last 20 years. I saw an older ZZ 3 times in the last 5 years, but I was only 14 or 15 when they were really on top of the rock world. The others were gone before I paid them much attention.

Still, the recordings are there forever, and there is plenty to discover.

I liked Guy Lark for several years before he died, but I never saw him play live. I tried to get folks to go with me to a number of his shows and didn't want to go by myself. I wish I would've gone by myself.

Nickel Creek. They ended a couple of years after we discovered them.

I think they may have reunited for a tour recently, but not sure

I too discovered MMJ when Z was released. My all time favorite band. They are still incredible live, one of the best live bands out there. I'll be at red rocks in a little less than 3 weeks!!! my 13th and 14th jacket shows

My band that i discovered too late is probably Modest Mouse or Kings of Leon

Somehow I missed Motorhead and Iron Maiden.

I was aware of them, just not how good they both were/are.

I can't think of any that I didn't listen to then eventually liked. But I do regret never getting to see Led Zepplin or Queen or Dio in concert.

At least Jack White is still around though. And his solo stuff is every bit as good as, or better than, White Stripes.

It's not. But its decent and he still plays the old stuff.

Go watch some of their live videos. Here' a great one, right before they played almost the same set in Budakon, for their amazing live album.

Here's the thing, if a band is still around and kicking, it's not too late. It's just late.

If the they broke up or the lead singer is dead, then yeah. That's too late.

The Pogues. I had been into them for a little while before they did their last show in Houston, but I had just moved and didn't know where to look to keep up with live music here. I found out about the show a day or two after it happened.

I'd forgotten all about them and immediately remembered this video. Thought it was a catchy tune and then went "Oh ****, that's Robert Trujillo!"

Avett Brothers. I learned about them after they shifted from Bluegrass to just plain folksy pop.

I discovered The White Stripes by shear dumb luck when White Blood Cells first came out. Huge fan ever since.

I missed out on the Oneders. By the time I caught on they had morphed into something unrecognizable.

Did you know Chris Thile, the guy who plays the mandolin, is now the voice of A Prairie Home Companion?

might be a strange choice but The Cars. I used to be mostly ambivalent about their music but started to listen to their catalog in the last couple of years and really enjoy their songs. Would have liked to have seen them live when Benjamin Orr was still around.

I preferred their snappy follow-up, "I Quit."

I miss Nickel Creek but I'm glad they're all three still active and occasionally play and record together.

If you haven't heard Thile's collaboration with Michael Daves, it's worth a listen:

Also, Sara Watkins' (and others) cover of John Hiatt's Crossing Muddy Waters is great:

Finally, Thile's collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma (and others) for The Goat Rodeo Sessions is, well, trippy man. I never could decide if I liked it but I appreciated the effort.
