This was all I could think of while watching the trailer (Team America)

Nope. It's famous people in spandex motion capture suits. Then the fur is added in post later. The difference between this and Avatar is that in Avatar the faces were 100% computer generated, but based on the actor's facial expression. Here, their faces are a blend of live-action and GCI fur, which obviously doesn't seem to be working, and is part of what gives it that floating head look.

Having never seen Cats, but vaguely knowing the plot and thinking it sounds weird, this one is a definite "wait and see" for me.
Thinking Cats has a plot gives it away that you've never seen Cats.

I am a big big fan of theater and we have season tickets to Broadway Across America and saw Cats this past spring. I can say Cats is easily one of the worst shows I've ever seen.

The female cats should have 6-8 nipples if they are striving for realism (can you milk me ****er?).

That being said, I went to an off-off-off-off-off-Broadway staging of Cats a few years back in a suburb of DFW with a girl I was dating, because a mutual friend was in it. The production value was decent (as far as I can tell, since I know jack shat about this stuff), but I was sitting there the entire time thinking "I need some weed." And I don't partake in the Devil's Lettuce. Andrew Lloyd Webber loves LSD and other psychtropics, IMNSHO.

I actually bought a ticket to see Cats on Broadway in 1994. Thought it was terrible.

I would much rather see Cats with CGI cats instead of people creepily pretending to be cats. Can you imagine singing CGI cats?

We have had tickets for years for Broadway across America. Over the years there are several we have seen more than once. Cats is the worst experience I have ever had in a theater. No plot at all. One song of substance.
I really think it's a private joke from Webber. See how over the top ridiculous he could make it and people would still go.

Saw the trailer this morning before Lion King. It seemed that everyone was into the previews and then this one came on and the theatre had a strange vibe like everyone was wondering what the heck their kids just watched.

The fact that Taylor Swift is in it too makes it a hard no.

They should have gotten the folks with Doctor Who to do the cats. Lower budget and far better results than what I've seen in previews for Cats.

It amazes me that the 1968 Planet of the Apes was able to capture the animal qualities of apes and combine it with human figures so well. Then the Tim Burton version went backwards. And here in 2019 Cats creeps me out.

Same reason that LOTR look so good. Well done prosthetics and makeup and whatnot is always going to look better than CGI IMO. To be honest, you would think that a bunch of Broadway nerds would know better.

Doesn't matter. I love Cats. I'm gonna see this assuming I can get my theatre nerd friends to go with me.

Too bad that Betty Buckley didn't play Grizelda in this new Cats movie, if at 72y/o she can still carry a tune. No one....I mean NO ONE can sing Memories better than she did. She's a Big Springs girl, you know.
