All the talk about the new Batman movie being more of a film noir/psychological thriller has me interested in seeing more of the types of film.

List your favorites here and I'll leave a review once I've watched it.

The three Claude! posted is probably where you should start. A few others that pop to mind -
The Night of the Hunter
The Blue Dahlia
Touch of Evil
Shadow of a Doubt
Dial M for Murder
L.A. Confidential
Body Heat
Not Noir but definitely a psychological thriller, Gaslight .
In many ways Blade Runner works better when viewed in light of Noir than SciFi.

The best are:

Maltese Falcon
Touch of Evil
Lady From Shanghai
The Stranger
Sunset Boulevard
Third Man
Laura
Detour
Night and the City
In a Lonely Place
Chinatown
Naked City
The Big Sleep
Double Indemnity
Fatal Attraction
Gone Girl

The only way to properly determine the listing - and there is a small amount of subjectivity here - is to read French film criticism from 1946-1950, in the original language.

Blade Runner is sci-fi. It would be in my top 10 list for that, alongside the criminally underrated Sunshine (see it!)

Sci-fi and noir are not mutually exclusive. A film can be more than one thing.

What did the french critics of 1946 - 1950 have to say about Blade Runner?

If you like noir you should definitely watch Brick. It's a noir set in high school, starred JGL and was directed by Rian Johnson. It's a great take on the genre, really solid film if you haven't seen it.

I'm not a big film buff, but I like a certain set of movies for whatever reason(s) I like them. I kinda know what noir films are, but can't say I'm a fan. I tried watching Maltese Falcon and Chinatown earlier in life, and didn't make it through either. Just too slow to get me interested.

Reading this thread talking about psychological thrillers/noir and the debate over "Blade Runner" being sci-fi and/or noir makes me want to throw out another one. Maybe it's pure psychological thriller, or maybe it's horror, as it's mostly been pegged, but where does

The Shining (Kubrick's version, obviously, I hope)

fit into this discussion, or does it?

The Shining is psychological horror. Although the lines are blurry, Midsommar is the latest example of the genre. Speaking of Kubrick and genre, it is essential for cinephiles to read Sarris. Although I do not agree with him about Kubrick, his writing for an American audience is required to understand definitions and terminology.

Really like Brian de Palma's Body Double and Dressed to Kill.

Also like Jade.
