Prophets of Rage's Tom Morello: Why Trump, Sanders are not truly anti-establishment

Quote:

Morello, who recently knocked Trump as a "racist demagogue and called Sanders a "dreamer," said that while presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is "the lesser of two evils," she supported policies that led to a "horrific quagmire" in the Middle East and is loyal to big money and Wall Street.
Of course his political views will be closer to that of the Democrats than the Republicans but even he isn't a fan of that party. So it's easy to see why he's more vocal against the GOP.

OK, sounds like I might be wrong on him. Happy to hear it.

I agree with his stated views towards Ted Nugent. People that think the political spectrum is a straight line instead of more of a circle often make this mistake.
Morello actually has a degree from Harvard so he's a bit more educated than your average rocker. I love his music and agree with some of the message. But the energy at a RATM show is unmatched and needs to be experienced firsthand.

I first heard Morello speak not too long ago. Not at all like I expected him to be. He's a total nerd. That was shocking to me.

What do you expect from a harvard political science grad who is also a former exotic dancer.

He plays D&D and is a Trekkie.

I think the thing I'm glad that Morello did most is introduce Adam Jones to Maynard and Danny.

I liked rage a lot in middle/high school, but I can take it or leave it now. Unless it's off the first album, I find my self changing the station when I hear them come on xm. For some reason their music didn't stick with me like most of the other stuff I was really into in my younger years like metallica, tool, pantera or the grunge stuff.

Zack kicked me in the head when he jumped off stage at, I believe, Deep Ellum Live when they were touring on the first album in 1993.

I thought it was pretty ironic when they broke up. If 4 guys getting to do what they love for a living can't stay together and make it work, then I don't see how they think communism is going to work.

Mr Che Guevara t-shirt w/ a Vlad Lenin hat talking about war crimes is cute.

They can make some badass noise on stage, I'll give them that.
Yep, they're f'n braiwashed idiots (i don't care if you got some lib arts degree from Harvard, means nothing) and probably hypocrites of the highest order but they make damn good music. Communism has killed well over 100 MILLION people in the last century, while Western Civilization is vastly superior to any other civilization the world has ever produced...even with it's flaws of the past. And America is the greatest country and force of good this world has ever seen...even with it's flaws of the past and present.

Also, I bet at least some of these guys in RATM live in walled off mansions in gated communities with armed security.

Reminds me of the lefty politicians and Hollywood stars trying to tell us how to live and that we need to "sacrifice" because climate change might end the world. They'd frown at me for driving an F-150, yet guys like Al Gore, Leo Dicaprio, and Obama are buying up insanely huge mansions on large properties along the coast and probably have the individual carbon footprint of 1,000 average families.

Enjoy their musical talents, but best not to take a single thing they say seriously.

Yeah. A lot of nice neighborhoods in Houston have armed security patrolling...as well as at the entrance sometimes. Maybe LA or New York or wherever they live doesn't have this though. Rest of my point still stands.

What a silly thing to nit pick though.

You were so over dramatic with their alleged living situations that I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity. You seem very triggered by their political opinions.

No doubt, a big band going on tour across the us/world is such a hypocritical thing to do if they are also preaching climate change/save the earth/go green/etc.

With their handful of semis, ridiculous power consumption and massive generators running all day to put on those shows.

I treat RATM's music as novelty songs; helps me enjoy the music without rolling my eyes at the politics being espoused.

With them and MCR at Coachella I am pretty stoked to start the decade with a festival with a lineup that good.
