Besides RBF and MMB, who were some of the ska bands you were listening to in the 90s and 00s?

I remember the Suspects from Houston, the Urge from St Louis, Mustard Plug, and Save Ferris. Obviously, there were bigger bands like the Slackers and the NY Ska-Jazz Ensemble.

Less Than Jake
No Doubt
Sublime (a little bit)
Suicide Machines
Goldfinger
Save Ferris
Buck-O-Nine
The Aquabats (I love these guys)
Suburban Legends

There's many more that were less popular. I loved that music. Still do. I was in high school when it was at its peak. I'm almost forty now and I still jam out to it often. My wife thinks I'm a huge dork.

Check out rancid. It's harder than pure ska, but it's fantastic.

Voodoo Glow Skulls
The Toasters
The Last Slice (band i saw open for they might be giants...tulsa newish band...great)
Dr Octopus
The Hippos
Link 80 (ska punk)
Buck-O-Nine
Catch 22
Streetlight Manifesto
The Planet Smashers

I could go on but thats a good re-starting point and you can go down tue rabbit holes of Spotifys "Listeners also listen to..." lists.

But really, check out The Last Slice.
Saw them in Tulsa as an opening band and they were better than the headliner imo. They were a newer band in 2014 and were cool guys as well.

If you want more punk-ska i can give you that as well.

Also if Rancid is too much for you, Tim Armstrong has more mellow stuff thats good too....hes got the voice of an...uhh...angel. hah

Not purely ska but I really like Pepper and Long Beach Dub All Stars

The LBDAS were an incarnation of Sublime post Bradley Nowell.

LBDAS, I love Sunny Days, Trailer Ras, and My Own Life. I believe I saw them twice via Warped Tour

Slightly Stoopid- I have the mp3 for 2am but haven't dipped into anything else in their catalog.

Thanks all. Keep them coming

Glad this thread came around. Looking thru my phone I do not have many ska bands on it outside of MMB, No Doubt, and The Interrupters. It does have the very necessary "I Wanna Riot" by Rancid/Stubborn All-Stars from the Beavis & Butthead Do America soundtrack.

While not completely ska, MxPx did a live version (and then a recorded one) of the song "Heard That Sound" with Five Iron Frenzy. The horns just add a great layer of sound to the song. It's on the album Left Coast Live if you wanna give it a listen.

A few more (though these have a more old-school ska sound):

Hepcat
The Skatalites

The most fun I've ever had at a concert was when I saw The Skatalites at Fitzgeralds in Houston back in '99 or '00.

I'm only very slightly familiar with this genre, but seems I remember a band called operation ivy that was at the forefront of this wave. Tim Armstrong's band before forming rancid.

I have nothing of value to add other than I shot this thread over to a coworker of mine who is into ska and he wanted me to post this video of the singer of the Slackers playing the organ in his (the coworkers) kitchen.

Lot's of great bands mentioned so far. These guys are a great hidden jam. This album has a bunch of jams on it. This is still my favorite sing-a-long:

Yes. Seconded. They only have about 20ish tracks out there, but they are all great.

I remember seeing Skankin' Pickle in BCS years ago. They had a song called "Don't judge a man by the hair on his butt"

Sorry. I should have asked in the OP but which of these bands has a tight- or fat-sounding horn section?

More reggae than ska but I would be remiss to not mention the Killer Bees. Are they still around? I first saw them at some downtown club in Bryan that was always changing names
