I'm pretty certain that most of you guys/gals have heard their licks by now. As an old I thought rock n roll died a tortured death back in the '80's & '90's. I'd like a little more depth to the lyrics and the drums to be not so tinny, but I'm digging the sound. Hopefully all that will improve as they age. Anyway, can't wait for some new stuff from them.

I like them, but sometimes the screaming is a bit much.

Music is good, but I don't like the singer's voice. To me, they are to classic rock what all those 90s neo swing bangs were to the big band era. Not nearly as good, and I would rather listen to the original bands.

That's a great analogy I never would have thought of. Seriously.

I dug their stuff alright I guess, then I saw then on SNL a year or two ago and it changed it for me. The lead singer trying to pull of Hendrix looks and a Plant voice suddenly just screamed "gimmicky" and 'bush league" to me.

For sure.

You know, with the news of The Black Crowes getting back together, I thought that GVF is kinda TBC of this era.

Seems like every decade and a half or so, a band comes along that harkens back to those great late 60s and 70s bands.

Not a shocker that once the dougie howser effect wore off they became just another cover band. No shame in that, you can still make a good living.

That being said, when all popular music in the last century has been driven by the tastes of teen girls and boys it was an incredibly stupid (and easily avoidable) idea to try and appeal to 40+ year old men as their target audience. There is a reason no other bands are trying this brilliant marketing plan.

Same here. Their entire rhythm section seems really light.

You really think so? I think there's some good music being made these days that is being marketed to older crowds. It just isn't something you'd hear on terrestrial radio. You have to go to spotify and youtube to find decent music, because popular music now consists of mostly cheesy pop, stuttering hiphop and really bad bro/pop country. It's all garbage, but for some reason people eat it up.

I like them from the standpoint that they have an old school hard rock sound. They are so heavily influenced by Zepplin, particularly the singer, to the point where I 'm not sure where they take it from here.

Like who? Im sure there are some, but most I can think of fit as a small niche artist and started regionally with college kids and kept that audience as they aged into their 40s.

GVF was marketed as mainstream 70s rock for dads. Compare that to the 70s rock (and 90s pixies) influenced early 2000s bands like the strokes, white stripes, etc. Love or hate the strokes, they traditionally tried to appeal to the youth, and they built an audience who followed them for 20yrs.

Glad you like! They've been a favorite of mine for years. First heard Jimmy Page rave about them.

If you're talking about the video Champ posted just above you, I get a bit of a Thin Lizzy vibe from that.

They remind me of the Allman Brothers mixed with Credence.

I like GVF quite a bit. The guitar player is terrific. I can see why the singer might polarize people, though.

No, I was making a joke about GVF.

The linked song sounds like a B-side from The Kinks.

Sort of an REO Speedwagon feel. At least the GVF kids are trying to remake the good stuff from the 70s/80s.

They should be releasing a new album in the near future and were touring with Metallica before the shutdowns. I want to take my daughter to see them in concert.
