The prequels are great.

Never seen it...so the real answer is probably Roots.

Yep, what others have said. All the books are great. The other series not so much. Dead Mans Walk was the least horrible of them. So much potential though for other epic series wasted

I finally made myself sit down and watch Roots last year. I tried to ignore the fact that it's 40+ years old but it's REALLY bad. There was a little bit of intrigue to the story...just wondering where they would take it...but it's no where near as good as LD or BoB.

Since I probably can't choose, I'll give fiction to Lonesome Dove and historical / non-fiction to BoB.

Runners up - fiction category:
The Stand
True Detective, Season 1

Historical:
Chernobyl
Masada
The People vs. OJ Simpson
From the Earth to the Moon
Planet Earth
The Blue and the Gray

Does Ken Burns count in this?

Because his series on baseball blows everything away

what makes something a miniseries vice a stand-alone single season?

my vote also goes to Lonesome Dove. Robert Duvall's performance as Gus is my all-time favorite by any actor in any role. agree the book is better, but the book also makes the show better if you've read it and better understand the characters. it was very well cast on the whole, with the exception of possibly Dish and Jake.

Band of Brothers is rated as the best (#3 of any TV show). Chernobyl (#5 of any show) is next, though both are rated as a 9.4.

Ken Burns Civil is #29. Baseball is not in the Top 250.

Chernobyl is one of the best, if not the best, TV events I've ever seen. Band of Brothers is right there.

Lonesome Dove is a cartoon.

I would think Documentaries and mini-series would be in totally different categories.

Roots may not hold as well as some of the others, but it is easily the most important miniseries ever.

None of the shows mentioned are important.

I might agree with you expect far too much BoSox. especially the additional extra-innings episodes.
