I have watched Ep 1 (Diehard) and Ep 2 (Dirty Dancing) and thought they were fascinating. The behind the scenes documentary is told with a lot of humor from the producers, writers, crew, etc. and really shows how great films can teeter on the edge of disaster and doubt before they are finished and they realize they have a hit movie. When the Die Hard trailer was first screened the audience laughed and booed Bruce Willis because they thought he was a clown and the studio freaked and took him off all the posters. I also didn't know Swayze and Jennifer Gray hated each other due to bad blood from Red Dawn and she tried to get the producers to remove him before filming.

I've only seen the Home Alone episode, and it's great.

I've seen that movie more times than I can count, and yet I had never heard most of those stories. Had no idea the house sets were built inside a high school gymnasium, or that it was originally a WB picture before they shut it down (whoops!), or that Daniel Stern originally got recast, or many of the other stories.

Crazy that the original studio killed the movie for less than $2 million in budget deficit and it goes on to make more than a billion.

Also, thanks to Chevy Chase for being a dick to Chris Columbus. And to the original guy who dropped out of scoring the movie.

Chevy is known for being the biggest ***** in Hollywood. His terrible behavior is legendary going back to the 70s.

The Ghostbusters episode gave me a lump in my throat when they mentioned Ramis' passing and his reunion with Murray before he died.

Crazy the original cast was supposed to be Ackroyd, John Belushi, and Eddie Murphy.

I love nostalgia, loved Toys That Made Us, loved these 4 episodes, wish there were more. Most intriguing thing I learned is that John Hughes wrote a script for Dumb and Dumber

Also wish the movies they covered were on Netflix cause now I want to watch them again

Careful, after watching the Dirty Dancing episode my wife is planning to book a vacation for the family at the lodge in VA that was used in the movie. It looks exactly the same today.

She was one of the girls that went to hide in the mountains with the boys and she also played Ferris Bueller's sister before DD.

If they do the 90s here are the movies I think they should do:

Toy Story 1995 - This movie really changed much in animation and launched Pixar as a big deal and I would like to see some of the Aggies that worked on it.

Forrest Gump 1994 - Great movie based on a pretty obscure book which might have an interesting development story

Titanic 1997 - Not my favorite but was probably the biggest movie of the decade.

That's actually a very solid list. I'd add Pulp Fiction, maybe Jurassic Park?

Pulp Fiction , how could I have missed that one. I would love to see the story in that and how a former video store clerk created an instant classic.

Yes. The wife and I are going to re-enact as many scenes from the movie as we can so I guess this one isn't possible.

Posted this on the wrestling thread but noticed last night that there is a new episode of "The Toys that Made Us" about pro wrestling action figures that came out in the 80's. I enjoyed it.

Looking forward to watching these movie ones.

Winston Groom sold 30,000 copies of his book Forrest Gump before the movie was made. A year after the movie hit theaters he had sold 1.6 million. This was one of the few instances where the movie was far better than the book.

An interesting fact about Forrest Gump is that house was built for the movie. I remember looking it up years ago to see if it was a real place.
