I saw it first run with my parents. Empty theater. At the risk of sounding like a "I liked it before it was cool," this movie did not really become popular until about 10 years ago.
I've had the vhs for about 25 years.
Not really much risk of that since it's one of the highest grossing movies of the franchise.Quote:

We went and saw it several times at the theater and it was always packed. It was also a go-to rental at Blockbuster every year IF you were lucky and they had any available.
I'm not sure where you spent your Decembers up until 2009, but it wasn't exactly a hidden gem that all of the sudden got popular ten years ago.
Yeah, it has been fairly popular since it debuted. Saw it in 1989 with extended family during the Christmas break

That's all I was saying. Years ago, I would meet people who hadn't seen it or didn't get references. Now it seems to be extremely popular.

I first saw it on a rented VHS video in the mid 90s. Sometime during the last 15-20 years it became my custom to watch it every single Christmas season.

My wife and I, and sometimes other family, watch it every Christmas. We drink a bit too much and laugh at the same things every year, sometimes finding parts we didn't laugh at much before a bit funnier than we should.
Almost everything Eddie does is gold, although I don't care for the sled scene or "bingo" line. But when the turkey obviously blows up I love when he turns to his wife and says "why you cryin?"

This has been a highly watched movie forever. Just because the internet got big in the last decades doesn't mean stuff was not popular before then.
We watch "Planes" as a family the first Friday after Halloween and "Vacation" the Friday after Thanksgiving when we get back from cutting down the tree.TXTransplant said:
