It did well when released but yes it has now reached cult classic status
We watch "Planes" as a family the first Friday after Halloween and "Vacation" the Friday after Thanksgiving when we get back from cutting down the tree.TXTransplant said:

Christmas Vacation and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles are our two holiday staples.
