Hulu plus live TV was a disaster at my house. It was hard to use (the guide sucked) and we often would have a grainy picture for several seconds after changing channels and it would often do that or freeze up in the middle of a football game. We had zero issues with the Hulu part it was the live part that sucked.

I switched to Youtube TV over the weekend and it is a million times better. The guide works way better and the dvr is endless (Hulu deletes your stuff after a short period) and I get the nice quality picture right away when I switch channels without any issues so far. It is also $11 less than Hulu after the price hike.

I recently bought an outdoor antenna but it is still in the box because I didn't know the best way to set it up. Now I am going to try hooking it up to what my directv dish was connected to like a poster mentioned on this thread. If that works well, I am going to drop Youtube during the offseason and just use the antenna plus Hulu no ads and my cousin's cable login for espn sports.

Having the same issue but just havne't been sure if it's Hulu or my internet. I have gig so it damn sure shouldn't be my internet.

I have 1 gig internet too. Every other streaming service gives me a high quality picture with no buffering except for Hulu live tv. Youtube TV does a free two week trial. I did that and liked it so much that I just canceled Hulu the day I started the trial.

I'm currently paying $66/month for Hulu. I checked and I could get Dish Network for $73 (after taxes) and go back to having a service that isn't reliant on my internet speed and have a true DVR. I'm on the fence about going back.

You can get Dish month to month for that?

No...its not month to month. That's with a 2 year contract. But you are locked into that price.

I was really excited at the prospect of month to month TV service that I could cancel after football season, but I could never get my wife on board since she has shows she likes year round.

She never really liked navigating in any of the services we tried and there isnt a service that checks all of my sports boxes(ESPNs, AT&T Sports Net).

So now we are back on Xfinity for about 10 bucks more a month than we were paying before. I will be honest, I really like having a full remote again, channel surfing and navigation are so much easier. Also, Smart Resume on the DVR ftw.

Moved from Xfinity to Fubo.tv on a Amazon Fire stick.

Don't get the cool functionality of a voice remote and it sucks having to leave the channel you are on to go back into the guide, but you do get DVR and smart resume.

I'm going to test YouTube. Hulu was terrible last night constantly going from SD to HD.

If YouTube does the same, I may just stick with DTV as much as I hate ATT and as much noise as I've talked on here about firing them. The fact is my DTV picture is so many times better than Hulu they aren't even comparable.

I've never had YouTube TV do that to me..

I've had the amazon App built into my tv act up. Sometimes I thinks the the quality of the app handling the stream.

PS Vue user here who's been testing YTTV, and YTTV definitely seems to be the more consistent stream. I get random stutters/pauses/rewinds fairly often with PS Vue.

Welp, I'm sticking with DTV. Been testing YouTube this evening and it's just as bad as Hulu if not actually worse. F' it. I'll just pay more. Not worth the lag, sh^tty PQ, and hassle factor of navigating around.

GD it. Really wanted to cut the cord.

Sounds like it's your internet. Might do some sporadic speed tests to see what you're actually getting.

I do that frequently. I get 900 up and down on wired and 200 up and down on wireless.

Maddening.

you could always torrent your shows....

i often download TV shows right after they broadcast on the East Coast and can download them and watch them before they even air here on the West Coast.

Yes, I pay for various service, but why should I have to wait for it to be broadcast locally.
especially when most of you idiots in the Central Time Zone will already be talking about the show for several hours before I can even watch it.

Because torrenting the show is illegal. I mean that seems pretty straight forward.

seriously. try out a VPN service at least for 1 month.
you can try privateinternetaccess or another VPN service for about $7 for a single month.

I bet you get better/smoother response specifically when streaming.
I do have a VPN service but I have dumb questions around that. How does even matter with my TV's? I have a VPN service on my desktop but I'm assuming that's only relevant for my connection via my computer and not my TV's that are wirelessly connected to router.

Since was debating switching to Hulu, does it serve instead of cable well? If the price is nearly the same, but more choices and easier to use, that might still be a gain.

The one that really seems good is Apple TV.

Content wise I haven't missed anything (outside one or two random channels) by going digital vs traditional cable. I'll be moving to YouTubeTV when PS Vue shuts down at the end of the month, Hulu's UI is maddening to me.

AppleTV doesn't have any content that's compelling enough to make me subscribe at this point, though I am looking at a new iPad soon and will check out the free sub I'll get with that.

I'm puzzled by those of you in the first world having streaming problems. I live on top of a mountain in WV and I have 12 MB (yes, TWELVE) DSL to my home. We have had absolutely no problems watching TV in HD on Roku devices in two different rooms while my kid is also playing on PSN.

So I can't imagine what your problems are.

Are the issues just when viewing it on your TV? Try viewing it on your computer or phone to see if the issues persist. If they do, then it's probably an internet connection issue. If not, how are you viewing it on your TV? Built-in app? Roku/Chromecast/Fire stick/Apple TV?

There will always be something less expensive. Had Sling for 2 years now, and prices have stayed constant. The minute things get too high is the minute I say screw it and just use rabbit ears.

TV is just not important enough for me to spend a ton of $$ on it.

Slings offerings are the worst and most limited of all the options, so I would hope it's the cheapest. And don't you have to use rabbit ears to watch locals with sling anyway...?
i feel like sling is the best bang for your buck.

you want a disney/espn package or a fox/fx package. here you go, $30 a month.

i dropped PS Vue before the holidays so people wouldn't take over the TV with FoxNews or sports when family was in town.

We bought a somewhat higher end indoor antennae that mounts behind my TV and it integrates into PlutoTV when it's plugged in that just shows all the local channels.

we plan to just add sling when we want to watch tennis or college football and drop it after that.

Sling is going up on their prices too. I may just drop streaming service and watch local tv, since I'm not home much anyhow. It is getting annoying.
I know a lot about a little, and a little about a lot.

25 --> 30 over 3 years is different than 40 -->60 in less than a year.

I'm going to test it on phone and computer when I get home. I'm starting to wonder if it's the actual TV.

I have three TVs all on wireless:

1. Panasonic Plasma: on other side of house from router and oldest tv and has no issues. On a roku because it has no smart capability.

2. Samsung LED: closer to router on a roku but just old enough that the native Hulu app doesn't support Hulu Live. Some issues with lag and moving in and out of SD and HD.

3. LG OLED: purchased last year and is top of the line. Practically adjacent to my router. Using native apps and it seemingly can't settle into an HD picture with either Hulu Live nor YT TV consistently at all. Constantly sliding in and out of HD. However, 4K movies via Xbox on streaming have zero issues.

I am perplexed to say the least.

have you checked on firmware updates from the manufactures?
they do occasionally update the apps.

and I would still try 1 month of a VPN service and test it with your wireless/computer devices.

Yes, updates are automatic on my tv. Will do some more testing.
