Yeah, early in the documentary didn't an anonymous person in the FB group say the person you're looking for is Lukas Magnotta? Besides him, who else would have made that connection?

^Before the murder. This occurred after the first cat video.

How did the Luka guy get the video of the lady at work in Vegas?
I was wondering this as well. I don't remember them ever explaining it.

Could have been one of his relatives, remember the mom said one of her family members sent her an email telling her to look at the videos because they thought it was Luka so people in their extended family were talking about it.

I also wouldn't put it past Luka putting it out there himself since he got off on infamy.

Seems it's about a guy who started posting videos of himself hurting/killing cats and a Facebook group tries to find out who it is, eventually the guy escalated to killing a Chinese man and has sex with the dead body then posts the video online. He cuts off appendages and mails them to schools, the Conservative party and the liberal party in Canada. The extent of the videos that actually get shown on the documentary I'm not sure of, because I read what the guy did and decided it's not at all worth my time.

There's no mystery to who the guy was, or what he did, and the documentary almost certainly doesn't give a compelling reason why. It's basically taking the dark corners of the internet and making it more mainstream, which I think is a bad idea.

They do not show gruesome from videos but still shots explaining what they believe his motif was.

I ended up skipping to the last 30 minutes to see the conclusion.

Edit....wrong emoji. Didnt mean that

Even though they didn't show anything graphic my mind still managed to fill in the blanks. What an f'd up documentary.

For a sociopath you'd think he would have put a little more effort in disposing of the evidence.

It was crazy to see how the mom was in complete denial.

Did Luka really send the casino video or was Baudi just getting trolled by someone who knew her or was she just seeking attention? I wish they had explained this.

Is it actually her in the casino video? Or was it just a video of the casino? Probably pretty easy to get a video of the casino.

It was a video of the casino. Not her.

The Facebook group people never actually helped, and possibly just gave him an audience. I was hoping they'd catch him somehow. The outdoors board has better results than that group

A FB group that loves cats tracked down who was making the cat killing videos. That person goes on to get in serious trouble and is pursued around the world.

I watched it. Thought it was fascinating and very well made. They interviewed almost all the right people, but I wish they had found a friend or two who would talk. I also thought they did a good job describing the video enough without showing the gory details.

[sp]
Yes, who did the third hand in the video belong to?

Can't believe his mother agreed to be interviewed. She was also bizarre and did him no favors. That was the closest we got to finding out why he did what he did. She mentioned he was bullied as a child, but they didn't spend any time exploring that.

I think the police would have found the guy just as quickly without the Facebook group. They should have been more alarmed about the cat videos, but I don't think that had any impact on the murder investigation.

I didn't understand why the (strange?) Montreal Police Lady said they didn't have enough evidence to arrest the guy after they used the package barcode to track down the location and had a video of him actually mailing the packages.

The Montreal Police notified the French Police while the plane was in the air. Why didn't the they just pick him up as soon as he got off the plane?

I initially thought that as well, but I think it was just the editing that made it seem like they were hot on the trail and not actually several hours behind. Looking through all that security footage probably took several hours, so I think he probably landed before they were able to notify French police.

Watched it. It was really interesting, especially seeing how he created all these internet personas and influenced reality using them to promote himself. Reminded me of some of mfbarnes and others like that.

Also a kind of cool "Usual Suspects" Keyser Soze moment at the end with the Basic Instinct reveal. If you're into shows like Dateline then I think you will enjoy this.

I thought the Facebook group literally the only reason they kept him from killing another person.

I also think they provided him an audience that allowed him to kill in his own warped mind.

Do they do electric chair's in Canada if so light this mofo up!

I thought the same. She was bizarre...to the point of wondering how in the world she was even promoted to her position. Almost nothing she did or said made sense to me.

Does anyone else find it odd that this documentary and most of what people are talking about seems to be mostly about cats and not the human being that was violently murdered? I haven't watched this yet so maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like the guy that was murdered is more of an after thought.

After watching the documentary and reading about it ahead of time, I don't feel that's the way the conversation has gone at all.

A lot of the conversation I've seen has been centered around animal cruelty and I've even seen it referred to as the "kitten killer" or "pet killer" series. It took about 10 posts on this thread before someone even mentioned there was a murder. Again, I haven't seen it and don't really know the story so I could be wrong.

There is definitely a growing sentiment in this country that a pet's life is somehow comparable or even more valuable than a human's.

You see it on this website sometimes. The documentary kind of unintentionally highlights it a few times by showing social media comments from people threatening to murder the guy for killing the kittens. It's ridiculous and disgusting, frankly, but it's something that isn't going to go away anytime soon, am afraid.

As far as the documentary, it starts off about kittens, but the bulk of it is about the murder. It does not try to portray the kittens as more important than the person who was killed. The kittens are just what gives this documentary its "hook" and distinguishes it from just another murder show.

Also found it odd that she would start weeping when telling the story of having to watch the murder video. I was honesty trying to be sympathetic, but that seemed like really strange behavior from a detective.

Also, if I'm remembering correctly, Luka didn't necessarily post the casino video. They mentioned it was one of the "liked" videos on his profile. Definitely still creepy but she/they kind of over sensationalized that part.

This.

The escalation from cats to humans is part of the intrigue of the series. I didn't know going in, which made it all the more suspenseful when watching and intentionally left out of the OP for those who wanted to go in spoiler free.

I thought she said they wanted to figure more things out before going public with the information? I don't remember her saying they needed more evidence to arrest the guy.

This was not anything like I thought it was going to be, and I actually thought it was worth the watch. The story of this Luka guy is so messed up, Hollywood couldn't have written a better script for how crazy he was.

The whole things about "Dont ***k With Cats" is that cat videos are so well liked that this guy killed two cats and pissed off people so much because everyone likes cat videos that they decided to track down this F*** because they wanted him caught. He was going to kill someone eventually, regardless.
