I know audiences and laugh tracks were common on alot of shows/sitcoms back in the day but I can't stand those anymore. I feel like there's some attempts to bring it back but the minute I hear a laugh track or an audience I'll turn that show off.

It's weird that they were ever a thing

What's hilarious is watching shows with the laugh track removed.

Makes you see that processing something as "funny" is easier with a laugh track, but it's really just a way to get people to enjoy bad writing. "Let's show this quirky character doing something absurd...wait for laugh track..."

Some shows I like with a laugh track, some shows I like without a laugh track.

"Cheers is filmed in front of a live studio audience" will forever be etched into my brain.

I know where you're coming from, but it's not always the case. Even Seinfeld would look ridiculous with the laughs removed.

That 70s Show is a show ive started watching. Its enjoyable with a laugh track still.

Anything else these days, especially new, i cant do it. Even The Ranch. And if you remove it from the Big Bang, its cringeworthy. Somehow it makes that show even worse.

The Ranch was one of the most god awful things I've ever watched right up there with Two Broke Girls.

Read an article about laugh tracks where they were saying how they are actually super depressing, when you start to think about how the majority of them were recorded back in the 70's. So most of the people you hear laughing are already dead.

That's like saying that turning off the a/c would make absolute zero feel less cold. While technically it's possibly true, who would subject themselves to such an experience...?

I couldn't stand it at first because of the laughs. Then I stopped hearing it.

I prefer shows without it.

Laugh tracks don't make a show funny or not funny.

How am I supposed to know what were jokes and what was serious when I watched Big bang theory?

I ruined "Friends" for many people when I pointed out the incessant laugh track. Once they paid attention to it they then realized what a terrible show it was.

I feel like in 10-15 years, we'll have these same threads about documentary style sitcoms. It was just a style at the time. A funny sitcom is still funny. A bad sitcom is still bad.

It feels more at home with british comedies I think.

I discovered Red Dwarf late and binged through many of the first 5-6 seasons on Netflix... Then came the season without the laugh track... It just didn't feel comfortable anymore.

I have gotten so accustomed to watching shows without the laugh track that it really detracts from shows that I used to love that have a laugh track. I can't watch Seinfeld anymore because of the laugh track. It is just so obnoxious and so distracting.

I binge watched Hogan's Heroes last summer. Almost every show had a laugh track, but there were 2-3 where the laugh track was missing for some strange reason.

Those 2-3 episodes were a LOT less funny simply because the comedy is cheap and silly. 99% of the laughs are related to Sgt. Schultz and Colonel Klink being insulted and/or simply reacting to a situation.

Se, thats not true. The timing of a show is strange without the laugh track, and they tend to put laughs in where there is no joke told.
Friends still had many funny scenarios and jokes being told. Big Bang Theory does not.

I agree with you on the first couple of seasons. But I think the writing really declined in the later years.

Same way I feel about drum tracks and auto tuning in music. It sucks.
