Gotta love that attitude, "they make MILLIONS on this promotion, they won't care that they give away a million, they will barely notice". Office space made a whole movie joke about that and these goobs are real life.
90% of what he said was true... McDonald's doesn't care who wins it or if someone wins it... They probably make more than $1MM extra the day after a winner is widely announced.

It's ridiculous to think that they don't care that Uncle Jerry is picking all the winners and selling the tickets for kickbacks.

I can't decide if the old LDS dude thinks that sort of admitting that what he did was wrong and dancing around things makes him a better person or if he just can't admit that what he did was flat out wrong. "Maybe it was the Oxy from the wreck that made me do it..." and "I took on the burden so that other people couldn't be implicated" are cop outs. He's as shady as any of the other middle men.

The longer people live with a lie of something they did wrong, the more they start to believe it and figure out ways to make it "less bad" when they have to share it with someone else.

TC, I'm with you, but I think a lot of people were expecting 8 hours of the one FBI guy. I wish they had saved his part for later, every time I get a bit of his personality on screen, I want more.

Loved every episode so far. Yes, 8 hours of FBI guy would be awesome, but how do you hate on an episode that basically ended at The Chicken?

I have also really enjoyed it. It's a fascinating story and pretty well told. I did think this one drug along a bit while they finished up Jerry's story but it really picked up toward the end. I enjoyed the old guys candidly explaining how they got into it quite a bit.

Just finished watching episode 3... loved the first two but this was a total snore. It was all about the crime family background. Jerry Colombo's strip club has nothing to do with the McDonald's scam. Snore.

Also can't understand the black lady's problem with having to give Jerry $25k a year and she gets $10k. It's $10k more a year than she had before.

The feel I got from Robin and her story of showing up to the strip club to call Jerry out on his infidelity was that she made up her own version of Carmella Soprano fan fiction where she shows up to the Bada Bing and exposes Tony. I don't believe that happened for a second.

Whole house had the flu save for me, so finally watched the last episode Sunday night. I mentioned this earlier following up what TC said, but the fascination for me beyond how they figured out the method he was using is watching these people still trying to justify their actions 20+ years later. All saying they're good people, even though they are fully aware they were taking money illegally. All griping about Uncle Jerry taking his cut, like they should have been entitled to the whole thing! The guys who have been to prison are the only honest ones of the bunch.

Also, I never thought I would miss Robin in the red dress until I saw Robin at her house in the black T-shirt. Yikes.

Tonight was a better episode. Overall series was still too slow but definitely better tonight.

Though I will say... If the tease for the finale is a red herring I'm going to be really annoyed.

I still figure the informant comes from the Colombo side since they were cut off from the money after Jerry died from the car accident. Originally thought it was Robin, but with her incarceration after Jerry's death that seems less likely.

Didn't see a thread on this one so I figured what the heck.

Anyone catch the premiere of the docuseries about the McDonalds Monopoly scandal on HBO last night? Very well done and intriguing first episode. I grew up on going to McDonalds and collecting the game pieces hoping to win one of the big prizes. Didn't realize the full on scandal this was causing behind the scenes.

Also that FBI agent Doug Matthews is a freaking character. Hilarious guy and was perfect for the "undercover" production operation they showed in the first episode.
Favorite line: "Everybody SORTA liked Doug" my roommate and I died laughing at that.

Yeah, when he talked about going to the house and it was cleaned out, that was telling.

Ok... who does everyone have?

My list on order of who I think gets listed as the informant is:

  • Frank Colombo - obvious
  • FBI Wiretap mentioned by Dwight Baker - interesting, but it would be hard for them to provide enough proof this was actually the tip
  • Michael Hoover - maybe he started feeling guilty
  • Robin Colombo - I could see her doing it, but she was in prison and didn't seem too eager to agree with the FBI when they first approached her
  • Gloria Brown - I could definitely see her feeling guilty, or mad about how lop-sided a deal this is for her, but I think she tried to lay low and hope this all went away as opposed to breaking it open.
  • Hamburgler - you never know what this guy is going to do.

Probably can add the six or seven wives of Uncle Jerry to the list of potential informants.

The tease for next week wants us to believe it is someone we wouldn't guess.

Maybe a higher up in the Colombo crime family who Jerry blabbed about his scheme to and maybe kicked profits to that was under investigation or indictment.

Something just occurred to me.

Out of all the questions, do we know who it was who donated the million to St Judes?

It was Uncle Jerry

I saw on HBO Go they have a podcast or directors commentary or something. Briefly saw it but didn't have time to investigate. Has anyone seen this?

Listened to the YMH Podcast today, hosted by comedian Tom Segura, who is first cousins with Brian Lazarte, and both directors came on for approximately an hour to talk about the show and their own podcast.

It was announced that they are going to have a bonus podcast at the end, and that Segura will guest host it.

Thanks. Is it worth listening to?
It sounds like the final one may be something interesting to check out.

It is a companion podcast. HBO did the same thing for Chernobyl and it was really well done. They filled in a lot of information and even explained when things were done for dramatic effect and when things were historically accurate.

The McMillions one is awful. I listened to the first 1 1/2 episodes and turned it off and deleted it. Maybe the source material just isn't that interesting, but the podcasts are incredibly boring. From what I listened to, it is essentially just interviews with some of the people and they spend most of the time talking about what they thought of the episode. Personally, I wouldn't waste your time.

Overall about a C.

Good premise but filled with needless B.S. and could have been done with 4 episodes.

Loved it. I don't get how the flight attendant got off scot free, but whatever. Overall, I still found the story incredibly entertaining and satisfying. Seriously cannot wait for the movie version.

So how much cash does columbo have buried somewhere that he is dribbling out to stay under the radar?

Loved it when his old accomplice asked him if he had any tickets.
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree with a C.

They built up this entire crazy conspiracy and mafia and 'higher up' mentality and the result was Jerry Jacobsen got an envelope full of sheets of the protective stickers accidentally delivered to him. The Colombo stuff still feels like fluff bull**** to try and sweeten the story.

I don't believe "Ma Colombo" was the informant either. Frank & his weird wife just want attention.

I stick with my previous post that this should have been 240 minutes over 3 eps. Not 360/6.

So Uncle Jerry is paying $350/month (can't remember the exact amount) in restitution.

Crime does pay.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
The black lady was upset because she had to pay Uncle Jerry up front so she had to have a second mortgage on her house and wasnt making enough from the ticket to pay for the increase in payments.

What a bunch of wanna be gangsters. It was comical. Lasted an episode or two too long.

I think the movie version would work better as a comedy after seeing the real life characters.
