Spent a little time revisiting Elephant today. Try and tell me Ball and Biscuit isn't one of the very best rock and roll songs of the past 20 years.

I love that song, but Black Math is my favorite. Also, Elephant is a top 3 album of the last 20 years.

Is this where we pretend Seven Nation Army isn't their best song?

Don't have to pretend. Not even the best song on the album.

Not on Elephant, but Death Letter is probably my favorite song of theirs.

It's up there somewhere in the top ten all time for me.

Incredible record - just an embarrassment of riches. Reading the tracklisting now and there are 7-8 tracks that would be the best track on a lesser album.

Death Letter is probably my favorite too. There is a live version that blows my socks off.

But Elephant is awesome, too. Funnily enough, I listened to this record for the first time in a while yesterday. I think I'll listen to Icky Thump today.

Sure it is. This is just your flex of the fact that you can name 10 White Stripes songs.

Not really. Just like Stairway isn't Zep's best song, or Satisfaction and the Stones, Purple Haze and Hendrix, My Generation and The Who and so on. A bands most well known song is rarely the best.

Meg White's sloppy ass drumming works so well on Elephant. It's the perfect match for White's guitar style. And normally, sloppy drumming drives me nuts. Something about the way she plays, almost like a shuffle, is kind of genius.

Also, Seven Nation Army suffers from overexposure. It's an excellent song and probably has one of the most recognizable guitar riffs of the last 50 years. I don't listen to it much these days because I've heard it too many times, but that doesn't mean it's not a good song. Same with We're Going to Be Friends. It just so happens that I prefer to listen to songs like Ball and Biscuit, Hotel Yorba, etc. Seven Nation Army is an undeniable monster track, though. So is Fell In Love With a Girl and Dead Leaves.

Stairway is not Zep's best, but it is in the top 10.

IMO it's one of the greatest rock tracks of the 00's. Top 5 for sure, of any band.

Ya. It's not intentional. That's what people who can't play drums well sound like. Reminds me of when I first started playing in middle school.

I agree that it almost works in the lo-fi sound of the WS, but without Jack, Meg would have never sniffed the stage.

So apparently not only was Jack in Dallas last night, but WE WERE AT THE EXACT SAME PLACE AS HIM, and didn't see him. Probably good, 42 year old dudes acting like fanboys isn't a good look.

I think he's in Dallas quite a bit. He co-owns Warstic Baseball in Deep Ellum

In no particular order, off the top of my head, are 5 songs better than 7 Nation Army:

Icky Thump
Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground
300 MPH Torential Outpour Blues
I'm Slowly Turning Into You
Ball and Biscuit

If you throw in his solo stuff, Dead Weather, and Raconteurs, you'll find plenty of songs better than 7 Nation Army. Great song, there's just so much in his catalog that's better.

The White Stripes are at their best when they are raw and not playing for the radio. Seven Nation Army is a good song, but it's the White Stripes song for people who don't really like The White Stripes. Songs I'd put over it:

Jimmy the Explorer
Stop Breaking Down
Screwdriver
You're pretty Good Looking
Hello Operator
Little Bird
Death Letter
Jumble, Jumble
Hotel Yorba
Fell in Love with a Girl
Black Math
Ball and Biscuit
Icky Thump
Little Cream Soda
Catch Hell Blues

Just my opinion but everything they have done other than 7 Nation Army is terrible.
