We're about half way through and really enjoying this series. Makes me miss Austin even if this is a real issue in East Austin despite great intentions of the Latinos bringing money into that area.

the endless options of streaming content now is causing people to spend more time in deciding what to watch. I for sure don't have time scrutinize every little thing in the Netflix suggestions. Give me back the days of no more than five solid originals on Netflix.MyNameIsKyle said:

The standard Netflix service price has gone up 5 dollars in 9 years.MGS said:MyNameIsKyle said:How is this a bad thing?hph6203 said:

It's a bad thing when the cost of service jumps a couple bucks every few months.
Netflix used to look like they were going to compete against HBO for quality, now they look like they're trying to keep up with network TV and you have to pay for it. If you enjoy this show all the power to you, but it just doesn't look good based upon the trailer. Most of what they put out doesn't look good. That wasn't always the case. They're going for a quantity model now rather than quality.MyNameIsKyle said:How is this a bad thing?hph6203 said:

I would disagree. It seems to me like they still go for quality, but they are looking to appeal to more than one kind of viewer. I agree that a lot of the shows don't look interesting to me, but clearly people are interested.hph6203 said:Netflix used to look like they were going to compete against HBO for quality, now they look like they're trying to keep up with network TV and you have to pay for it. Netflix has made a few comments in the past that they want to have everyone's favorite show. You don't do that by being HBO, you do it by putting out a wide range of content that appeals to lots of different people.PatAg said:I would disagree. Also I don't want to invest wasted time on starting up new shows that puts me on an endless cycle of binging, find new show to binge til others come back for a new season, first show is back so binge more... wash/rinse/repeat.
Having a kid for sure decreases the amount of time I have sitting around being a lazy slob so at least that has helped. Except we watch more Disney movies on repeat these days.
Hell, I have a free year of Apple TV that I don't even care about because I don't want another streaming service. Additionally just axed Hulu.
My situation is only one use case but having a metric sh t ton of content available is more of a limitation for me. The algorithms don't seem to target me correctly anymore either.
In 2015 their release lineup looked like this:M.C. Swag said:haha what? when was this a thing?hph6203 said:Netflix used to look like they were going to compete against HBO for qualityMyNameIsKyle said:How is this a bad thing?hph6203 said:

The only thing netflix has done (and continues to do) is expand it's library by whatever means necessary. They have never shown an ounce of restraint in terms of what properties they purchase. And to a greater extent, they hardly EVER promote any of their shows (something HBO always always does).
Their "quality" content is the exception and always has been.
Everyone forgets about the hits like John from Cincinnati, The Brink, Vinyl, etc.fig96 said:
While I get what you're saying, you're glamorizing HBO's overall lineup a bit. They've got a whole lot of shows that aren't GoT/Westworld.
Lol i honestly think GoT and Westworld are the worst examples of HBO's quality (Chernobyl was the best thing i watched on TV last year).fig96 said:

Not sure what you mean by cherry picked. That was their entire lineup for 2015, which was Netflix's first year of full production of original content. Prior to that it was basically Orange, House and a couple of re-distributed shows from other markets along with streaming rights. I'd also argue that the existing IP was the low point of that list.M.C. Swag said:
lol HBO received' 137 emmy nominations in the past year ALONE.
Also, nice job cherry picking 2015 and lumping existing IP with newly created IP and acting as if that's the normal flow of programming that Netflix puts out.
Here's the reality; every year Netflix releases some great stuff. The majority of their content is not. That has always been the case. You're just cherry picking the good ones and forgetting all the rest.
Have a feeling this ones gonna be WOKE AF. Can't wait for this trend to go away.CapCityAg89 said:

Agreed. And that's exactly why I posted this thread - there's plenty of good and bad content, I appreciate the fact that TexAgs helps me find the good. Hence, the OP.MyNameIsKyle said:How is this a bad thing?hph6203 said:

Yeah, I wish they'd go back to just making shows about middle class white people.Boo Weekley said:Have a feeling this ones gonna be WOKE AF. Can't wait for this trend to go away.CapCityAg89 said:

I'd love to party with Don Neto though.
