Apparently this box set came out in November but I just picked it up this week. Finally listening now and HOLY **** this is amazing. I've always loved the Band of Gypsys album as well as the two disc Live At The Fillmore East that came out in the late 90's.

Both of those came from the 4 shows they played on 12/31/69 and 1/1/70. This box is all four shows in their entirety, basically the complete history of this band. They started one more show but it ended after a few songs and they never played together again.

IMO this is peak Hendrix. Most of the songs weren't even completely finished and didn't have proper titles so they have the freedom to jam and let their musical genius take over. Those lucky enough to be in attendance had no idea what they were walking into. Lucky SOB's, all of them.

I preordered it and it was a Christmas gift
In summary, jimi is the GOAT

FYI
The single disc release titled "Machine Gun" is the first set on the first night of the four shows. It is identical to the first disc in the box set. It is arguable the tightest complete show. So if you don't want to buy the box set, it is a great alternative.

Hopefully Experience Hendrix has more releases lined up. We are due for Royal Albert Hall.

Junkhead,
Do you have the Winterland box set?I would say that is must have.
It is from the 6 shows the experience did in October 68 at the winterland ballroom in San Fran. Great content.

As great as he was, I think he was on the verge of doing some amazing things that would have only increased his legacy. That Jimi / Miles Davis collaboration is one of the biggest things God took away from us.

I actually got to meet Buddy Miles three times. The first time I saw him was in a small club in Deep Ellum called Blue Cat Blues. He was kinda hunched over and had to walk through the crowd with a cane to get to the stage. When he walked past me I was thinking I might have made a mistake coming to the show. He proceeded to sit down at the drum kit and play like he was in his prime. I was blown away. He even picked up a guitar for some of the show too.

You can blame one person and one person alone for his death.

Then I would blame Monika Dannemann. If she would have called an ambulance at first sign of trouble then he would have likely lived.

I think it was Mitch Mitchell that describes Buddy Miles style was like a cement mixer. Kind of funny. Kind of true.
