John Ford with two of his best actors in John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara but Victor McLaglen drives that flick and was nominated for an Oscar because if it . Not bad for a palooka turned actor . Love it , such a beautiful , poignant yet silly at times movie .My sophomore high school English teacher made us watch it many long years ago. I thank him for it albeit much of its themes were lost on my teenage boy coolness at the time.
We watched it last night as well and enjoyed it thoroughly as always. My wife and I took a trip to Ireland in 2006 and we stopped in Cong, County Mayo where much of the movie was filmed. We always enjoy watching the movie and getting to say "we were right there".
My favorite John Wayne movie, got to stop by the village in Ireland where some of the movie was shot, took pictures with the statues of Wayne and O'Hara.
This and McClintock are two of the best movies he ever did. Also enjoyed Big Jake.
I've always like John Wayne when he was more sarcastic and funny, mainly because he reminded me a lot of my father( they aren't that far apart in age). Wayched those three many times with the old man as a kid, and can quote all three pretty well.
