My wife had been binge watching this show, and it's just bad. If it's highly touted than I have no idea why. This family has every cliche problem one can imagine. Drug abuse, interracial problems, fatties, PTSD, etc. Every episode tries so hard to be a tear jerker, but it ends up make me roll my eyes. Is it just me?
Is it just me, or does "This Is Us" suck?

it's a show made mainly to appeal to women and touchy-feely guys.
It's not for you apparently.
The main thing to learn about life is people are different and different things appeal to them.
If you go about your life with the belief that everything you like is the only thing other people should like and if they like something you don't like, then they are wrong or stupid, then you are going to have a very sad life.
And you aren't as cool as you think you are by deriding/making fun of stuff other people like (unless it involves making fun of people who went to Baylor or Tech... those are just losers).
It's not for you apparently.

I am not saying everybody has to agree that it sucks. I'm wonder if my opinion is unusual. I had heard it was great but had only seen an episode or two over my daughter's shoulder. And yes, it is absolute truth that Baylor and Tech people are losers.
I enjoy this show, although the latest episodes have been a drag.
Also, Kate is gi-damn-normous. It's hard to look at her, mainly because her character isn't even trying to lose weight anymore.

I liked it at the beginning, but tired of it after one season.
We watch it and it is ok, but it is always so damn emotionally heavy. The lighthearted moments are such a relief. I'm tired of the constant, never-ending drama. Every single episode there is a big conflict. And I don't like the flashbacks. The short "previously on This is Us" summaries sometimes have stuff from a couple of seasons ago that I forgot even happened. We joke when those play, "3 years ago on This is Us..."

When I first heard about this it was from a bunch of emotionally psychotic women I know. I immediately banned it from my mental list of shows to watch.
I've never watched this, mostly because my SIL who does says she cries at every episode because it's so sad. The idea of a show being so sad it makes me cry every week is extremely unappealing.
I dont watch network dramas.
My wife and I stopped watching when they introduced the gay affair thing.

I don't love the show, but i don't mind watching it with my wife. It got a lot better for me after the "how does Jack die" drama went away. The main thing this show has going for it, especially in the more recent seasons, is that they do a nice job weaving together multiple storylines across multiple timeframes.
But early on, we'd finish an episode and I'd say to my wife, "Just because you put a slow motion montage over folk music doesn't mean it's nostalgic or emotional." We also agree that Mandy Moore is not great. But on the whole, it's good enough to watch.

Wife used to watch it, so I caught a few episodes. It's terrible.... and I watch a LOT of shows.
When it first started, I noticed that most of my girlfriends who absolutely LOVE The Bachelor were gushing over it. I suspected it wasn't for me. Then I watched the pilot and confirmed that suspicion.
We were huge fans of Parenthood and gave this show a shot. It was just way too much...definitely over the top.
Crap show for sure. Just more garbage on network tv geared towards normalizing non-traditional families.

Early on it was a great show and it still has some solid moments. I could see this show going on forever though with the flashbacks and flash forwards. It needs to end in another season or two but it's probably going to drag on for at least another five years. By then it will a ridiculous show. I still watch it. It's the only main stream show I watch at all

Season one was fantastic because yes, it had emotional twists, but also told a compelling story. As it's gone on, it's like the writers can't contrive something so compelling to drive the show, they just keep everyone on the emotional roller coaster.
