Rotten Tomatoes has been conducting a 'march madness' style tournament of the top 64 Netflix Shows to determine which is the best. Currently, they're in the final ("championship") round with Black Mirror vs DARK.

I know that alot of people have seen Black Mirror, but it seems like very few have seen Dark which is why i'm surprised it's made it this far. Not because it doesn't deserve it, I absolutely believe Dark is the best show on Netflix. It's just fun to see some recognition go its way.

Anyways, I highly recommend Dark! The 3rd (and final) season is set to debut in June and it's gonna be insane.

Pretty sure Dark is going to win too... well deserved. I think the championship should've been Stranger Things vs Dark, with either being deserving. Surprised Black Mirror advanced over those mischievous kids.


Narcos should've been in the Final 4, but overall a pretty good tournament. A couple of matchups I disagreed with (Master of None losing in the first round to Big Mouth??)

Wow. Amazed to see how big of a lead Dark has over Black Mirror... I love Black Mirror and have never seen Dark - I would have assumed they'd be close. Guess this is a series I'll have to try out!

Haha i imagine the lead to shrink. But yea, definitely give Dark a shot! The biggest hurdle is that it's a German show, so you have to watch it dubbed (which I do not recommend) or with subtitles and it is the most demanding show I've ever seen. By that i mean it demands 100% of your attention and focus. Absolutely not the show you want to passively watch while surfing on your iPhone. Innocuous conversations or subtle details become hugely important later on that you'll only appreciate if you're giving it your undivided attention.

Since I'm sure a bunch of folks might give the show a try after seeing this, here's a few pointers:

- As mentioned, this show requires your undivided attention. Make sure you set aside time for it and don't watch it as background noise.

- Watch with SUBTITLES. This is the only correct way to watch it.

- Keep this image handy as a guide while watching. You'll have to refer to it many times, no doubt. (This is safe for Season 1 and has no spoilers.)

- Let us know your thoughts, I've been wanting to hear thoughts from newcomers who are just discovering the show.

Knowing absolutely nothing about it and fearing stumbling on spoilers by digging too much, can you tell me what category does Dark fall into? Anything it's similar to (if I like X I'll like Dark)?

It's a...'soft' sci-fi. Takes place in present day but with a science fiction "twist." I've heard some people call it "Stranger Things" for adults, but that's not really a great comp. It has a Stephen King vibe.

Hard to really say more without giving too much away.

I would agree with the soft sci-fi description.

It's a bit of a sci-fi, drama, mystery, thriller... kind of a mix of everything good. On the surface, there are some similarities with Stranger Things, but those go away very soon into Season 1.

My main advice is, if it doesn't grab you right away, just stick with it. It's a bit of a slow burn in the first couple of episodes, but trust me, it will pick up and pay amazing dividends down the line.

I would say if you like any of the following, you'll probably love this show...

Stranger Things
Black Mirror
The Haunting of Hill House
LOST
Donnie Darko
Almost anything by David Fincher
Interstellar
Hereditary
IT (And Stephen King in general)
The Robert Langdon book series (Da Vinci Code, etc.)

I realize that is a very weird and eclectic list, but it's hard to come up with for this show.

Perfect list. I was actually thinking this had some hard core similarities with Black Mirror and Donnie Darko (the rest of the list applies as well).

You are correct... Weird that it was left off, then.

I thought The Last Kingdom was decently viewed, but maybe I'm incorrect on that too. I'd argue it's worth a watch!

Dark is one of my top shows of all time! A sci-fi mystery with attention to detail rivaling Breaking Bad. Also the music is perfect. Can't wait to see the conclusion to everything in season 3 this summer!

Dark is also excellent with multiple viewings. I re-watched Season 1 before Season 2 dropped and enjoyed it even more than the first viewing. Will probably do another rewatch of both seasons right before Season 3 airs to refresh my recollection of the character relationships.
