Visually, at least, this basically comes across as Dune meets Tron: Legacy, with a splash of Interstellar, and even though it looks like a slightly more budget version of all of those (though still super expensive), I'm likely in nonetheless...

These books are not meant for TV or movies. They are at their best in the format they are, where the cleverness and the morality is in the dialogue of a very few characters, not a bunch of CGI. Wasn't butchering I, Robot enough?

I wonder how much liberty they'll take telling the story. The Foundation series starts with a really cool concept that radically changed in focus in the later books. They could go 90% original story around the basic framework of the novels if they wanted, or keep it pretty bare bones.

This show might be bad but Jared Harris as Hari Seldon is excellent casting. I'[m guessing this will be an anthology type of show where Harris pops in and out of the narrative. Also, I wrote my senior history thesis at A&M on the intellectual history of Foundation, so I may or may not be both a little overhyped and overcritical.

I remember reading the original trilogy years ago. I will definitely check this out.

Will be interesting to see how this show uses super-powered predictive analytics compared to how WestWorld S3 and Devs did.

Funny i was thinking the same thing - how the hell to make that into a movie/show? Then again, i havent read these books since i was 10 years old. Maybe a reread is merited.

about to watch trailer but I have to say I think my heart missed a beat or two upon reading this thread. I have no idea how many times I've read the Foundations series! I'm both excited to see it and terrified that they will really screw it up like they did The Gunslinger. Guess I'll have to get Apple TV to find out...

FYI, and this may be old info to you, but if you've bought any ipad or iphone in the past year or so (or will in the future), apple is giving out a free year's worth of the service. we watch it through the apple tv app on our firestick.

my wife got a free year when she bought her phone, and i have an offer from the ipad i bought a month ago that i haven't used yet.

The first half of the trilogy was really a set of threaded short stories and the back half was really two novellas. I guess you could use all that material and write in that universe but there's a reason no one ever tried this before.
