Do I need some type of soundbar specific to the Fire TV Amazon platform, or can any of them be controlled by the Fire TV remote?

There is a large list of soundbars that it will be able to control right off. If it's not on the list it can try to learn how to control during setup by trial and error.

Very high probability it can control whatever soundbar you're using.

I have a Vizio 5.2.1 Soundbar and it works great with my Fire TV. It sounds amazingly great considering it's only $300. I liked it so much that I bought a 2nd one for my cave. I really like the Bluetooth sub that then connects the rears so I diont have to run cord.

Yes, if posted on the nerdery I'd probably get torn a new one on how inferior it is to whatever systems they run.
